Question about Merkur barberpole(s)

I am abviously seriously behind the times. I thought Merkur made one "barber pole" razor, the 38, with two color variants. But I looked on the Merkur website and now there appear to be two 38s a 12 and a 39! Could someone please tell me what is the difference between these models?

I can see that the 12 is an open-tooth model I believe, but I am at a loss to explain the other models.

The 39C is the King! The Slant Sledgehammer, or the Barber Pole with a Slant head. A fantastic shaver.

38 is a closed-bar head, 39 is a slant head, and the 12 is an open-comb.
