QED Select in light natural horn - a face lathering beast

I rec'd this brush on Monday, but I have kept it under wraps given the lovely bride has recently commented on the sudden increase of shaving related deliveries. Tonight, she and the kids retired early - so it was go time.

Hoo-wheee, this brush sucks up water like a sponge. I shampooed it with some of the lovely bride's sulfate-free phoo-phoo salon stuff, because it is supposed to rinse out residue free. I had read other reviews that these brushes were somewhat gamey, but there wasnt any funk at all.

I then gave it a spin on the DR Harris Lavender soap. A slow 20 count had lather spilling out of the container, which tells me a couple of extra shakes to remove water are going to be required with this brush. I face lathered and the brush is big, dense and soft. There is plenty of backbone, probably because it is so dense, but the QED Select doesnt have any scrub. Certainly not compared to my D01 2-band or even my Simpson Colonel in Best.

Originally, I was going to go for the Saville Row 3824 - but I was taken with the looks of this brush as posted on the QED site. I called, spoke at length to Charles and then pulled the trigger over the phone. The brush I rec'd is gorgeous, lots of character and depth to the horn - plus a substantial hand feel and weight.

It is up on the shelf with the others now, drying overnight for another call to duty in the morning. The tortoise-esque look of the handle stands out among the sea of faux ivory, so the lovely bride will be sure to notice and comment.

Some extra wine, taking the kids out of the house for awhile and maybe a foot rub should square me with her

Sorry, the best I can do is cell phone camera

Great looking brush! I'm enjoying mine in black horn so much that I picked up the natural horn as well. The weight and feel of the horn handle on this brush is excellent. That coupled with a dense, but soft knot, makes for an excellent combination.
