What's new

QED has Captain's Choice Lime for $12 in November

Surfing the site and noticed this; still have to meet the minimum purchase amount to qualify for free shipping BUT at that price you can load up!

No affiliation, etc.......

I pulled the trigger on the cc lime and two razorock soaps, third eye and mughetto di Bologna, at $4.99 each. Not bad.

Yeah looks like its back to regular price, when you search it under Captain's Choice it shows both the bay rum and the lime at original price... I wonder if they got a lot of action at the sale price and bumped it back up.

Actually they got a friendly note from the manufacturer that the established MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) is $17.95 and he quickly complied.

Seems to be quite a bit of this in the shaving product world. There are very few variances outid of blades on a regular basis other than special here or there. Definitely room for a discount merchant to sprout up and make a killing through quantity.

Unless he has it out there on consignment, and why would he?, he already got his money when the dealers stock was received.

For the sake of clarity here - they are a wholesale account as are others. We establish what is called a MAP (minimum advertised price) policy for each of our products. In this case it is $17.95. This agreement is established prior to us shipping any product to an account. Once in a while an account rotates products through as "weekly specials" and forgets that ours is one with a MAP. Both times this has happened in the past two and a half years a quick note resolves it and all is well in the world of The Captain.

To be clear, it is illegal to tell them the price they must charge but quite legal to establish a minimum price. This preserves margins for all wholesale accounts (prevents a price war mentality) and maintains the image of the brand. A little inside baseball here - each account is usually relieved that we have an enforced MAP policy. Many of the products they carry do not and they are caught in the whirlwind of who can do it the cheapest, which is no fun if you are a retailer.

Hope that helps.

thanks, captain (scott). my wife is a part of the aforementioned retail world, and some of the goings-on she relates are shocking. on another note, for what it's worth, I absolutely love your stuff (co9t and lime so far, but Christmas is coming!). i'm not a facebooker or i'd like you for sure. . .
