I am still perfecting my DE shave with this razor. At first I was using a 4 on pass 1&2. It was inconsistent on BBS, and my burn and weeps were common. Today I put it on a 2, and got my closest shave ever. Shouldn't, in theory, a higher setting be a closer more aggressive shave? Obviously what works for me works, but seems my shave should be closer on a higher setting.
Puzzled about my Futur.

Maybe your shave was a little too close on the higher setting. My guess is that with the angle you are accustomed to holding your razor, the more exposed blade was at a slightly too aggressive angle. At the lower setting, it may be just right. Go with what works for you. Enjoy!

I rarely set mine off of #1 (the lowest setting) and even at that it shows more blade than most of my other razors except the R41 or my straight razors.
The Futur is really different from other razors in its design. It may take a couple of shaves to get the angle just right, but it will soon become second nature.
As your skill improves with that razor your shaves will improve. It only gets better just focus on no pressure, proper angles and a good lather. Stick with the lower numbers for now and you may find you have no need to go higher. You will be fine.
