What's new

Pumpkin Beer

I can usually only have one or two in a sitting... but I enjoy trying new ones around October. My favorite is Dogfish Head Punkin Ale(expensive though around $10 for a 4 pack) and Lakefront Brewery Pumpkin Lager.

Any else like Pumpkin beer? any favorites?

I have had the UFO Pumpkin on tap the last two times we went out for dinner. Only a slight undertone of pumpkin flavor, but the bouquet is wonderful.

I'm a big fan of the annual pumpkin beer releases. Southern Tier Pumking is like pie. One of my favorites. DFH is great. Post Road and The Onion are good too. Looked at Lakefront over the weekend but passed. I'll need to grab some.

Pumking, Weyerbacher imperial pumpkin ale, and Avery rumpkin. I just posted those in another thread. However the more I drink pumpkin ales this year the more I am leaning towards Oktoberfest type fall ales instead. Avery's Kaiser is the champion in that arena.

Elysian Night Owl pumkin ale. Brewed with over 7lbs of pumkin per barrel and spiced in conditiong with nutmeg, clove, cinnamon, ginger and allspice. 5.9%. Best I have had.

Just tried a great Pumpkin Ale this weekend called Pumpkin Smasher. It's by Big Muddy brewing company based in Murphysboro, IL. Good stuff!

St. Arnolds down here in TX has a release called Pumpkinator. It's a pumpkin chocolate stout and very good. It literally tastes like you're eating a chocolate pumpkin pie. The graham cracker crust, spices, and all.

I tried the Lakefront Pumpkin Lager last week. It was surprisingly good, but I didn't get any pumpkin from it. Mostly pumpkin pie spices, e.g. cinnimon, nutmeg, allspice, etc. That Pumpkinator sounds awsome.

I'm going to have to try this. That sounds phenomenal.

Living near each I am partial to Southern Tier Pumking for a stronger one, but for a good, not to sweet session beer that i can drink quite a few of I haven't been able to beat Saranac's pumpkin. Not that I dont continue to try. I love this time of year, the selection is incredible this year i must say.

i've only tried one: Blue Moon Harvest Pumpkin Ale. My first sip i said "wow, tastes like a pumpkin pie!" it was delicious. i bet it would taste even better paired with a turkey or ham dinner. hmmmm

I would call around before you go looking for it. Quite the popular release in our neck of the woods. I would look at Hall's first if close by. I haven't seen it at Central Market on Hulen. Maybe call Goody Goody's. Also I recommend getting 2 bombers. Drink one fresh and age one as well. They're a little hot when fresh but they don't take long to mellow out. 6 months to a year is all they need. Save one for next holidays...you'll be glad you did. It is the definition of holiday beer.

Another vote for Southern Tier Pumking.

Every other pumpkin beer that I've tried (including one that I made myself) has been underwhelming. They just don't really taste like pumpkin to me.

I've tried both Majestic on the corner of Camp Bowie and Hulen as well as CM, and they were both out. I will have to give Goody Goody a ring.
