Proraso Tube

Greetings shaving oracles!

I was surprised the other day when my Proraso tube worked it's way back into the rotation and I found that much of the cream has become dry :-( We'd been out of town for three weeks, and while we were away the air conditioner broke. We live in Phoenix, AZ and the weather was extremely hot while we were gone. Hard telling how hot it got in the bathroom, but certainly north of 115 I would imagine, but none of the other soaps seem to have suffered.

The tube was well sealed, with the screw top tightly secured. The cream is now tending towards the consistency of the tub and is difficult to squeeze out of the tube, especially when my hands are slippery with water and pre-shave or soap. I fully expected that once I pushed out the driest cream in the nozzle, that what was behind would be fine, but it's not. It seems to have changed consistency consistently ;-> The tube is probably a total of 4 months old and about half used up. What I can extract rehydrates when I lather so it's still effective, just durn near impossible to get out of the tube!

I thought I'd ask whether anyone had ever had this happen, and whether there was any salvage possible. I think I'll just cut the end off of the tube and put it in a glass jar with a lid to use up the balance.

Small problem I know, but rather perplexing. I don't know what made it go bad! Advice or thought are welcome!

My theory is this:

I'm no expert on creams but they are softer (and lighter) than they should be based on the ingredients, so I assume they are whipped (like whipped butter). Excessive heat would drive the air out, causing this problem. Basically your cream has reverted to a soft soap, so yes, cutting the bottom and adding it to a bowl seems the best solution.

Thx folks. I'll look for a key, hadn't thought of that and having a couple around would probably be good idea anyway. My bias is to make things easy and cut the tube. I think I may have an old Proraso pre-shave jar around which would be perfect for this occasion.

I appreciate you giving my question some thought!

Where? At the moment it's 104 in Phoenix and 111 in Oklahoma City! Besides, after 25 years here it's home :001_smile
