Proraso Questions

I am thinking about giving this stuff a try. I see there are two shaving soaps. One I guess is regular and the other is for sensitive skin. There are also two pre/post shaving cremes. Are a lot of guys using the pre/post to shave with without using Proraso shaving soaps?

You should definitely use the soap. I use both types without the pre/post and find them both to be excellent performers. Give 'em a try.

The pre/post proraso product is like a cream but not a shaving cream. It doesn't lather. I wouldn't recommend using the pre/post only without any shaving soap...

The Proraso Soap (green) has a lot of menthol where the Proraso Sensitive (White) is much milder but still has menthol. Usually, Green in the summer and white in the winter.

Sometimes I use the pre/post even when I'm using other soaps/creams than Proraso.
I wouldn't recommend using only the pre/post to shave. That thing doesn't lather.

i use the proraso green cream pre shave every time. I then prepare with soap or cream of choice but have found this product a must have.

I do not use the pre/post stuff, just the Omega cream (about same but bit less menthol, believe Biggelow also has a bit less than Proraso).

Thanks guys.

I must have misread what I thought I read about just using the pre/post stuff only.

Is the stuff that comes in tubes just as good as the stuff in bowls?

+1 That is exactly what I've just started doing.

The one in the green tub is a soft soap and the ones in the tube is a cream... Both work just as good as each other and even better when combined to make a super lather!

OK, on the subject of lather, all I have to do is squeeze out a nickel sized amount from the tub into my lather bowl and lather it up right? I have only used hard soaps so far.

The Proraso in the tub I just use like a soap. Soak it with water while I shower, pour off the excess water, and load the brush right from the tub. I take the loaded brush and lather in a bowl.

All the Proraso stuff I have used so far is great stuff. I use the green label pre/post, the white tub (aloe and green tea) soap, A/S, and the green tube cream. All of it has performed great for me. I am getting ready to restock soon and will be trying the white pre/post and green tub soap then as well.

I took the plunge and ordered a bowl of the sensitive version from a seller on Amazon for $9 shipped. I hope I like it, lol. I couldn't find a tube in sensitive.

AFAIK the White doesn't come in a cream.

I've gone through three quarters of my white soap so I'll give you my (semi-noob) wisdom :)

You really need to load the hell out of your brush. After soaking shake 3 times or so, if there's too much water then you'll get bubbly soap spilling all over the place when you're loading. (This is sounding like it's full of innuendo, sorry)

When lathering, I find the volume of lather is low (compared to, say, ToBS cream), but the consistency and protection is really good. Just don't fall into the trap of thinking 'hey, there's not enough lather here, I'd better keep adding water and whipping till it increases', because that's how you stuff this one up.

Summary; it doesn't explode into a lathering frenzy, but it's really good. Just low volume.

Hope that helps

On the SMF forum, I bought a few tubes of C.O. Bigelow (I heard it is Proraso relabeled) and 2 tubes of Proraso. I got them all a couple of days ago and I was able to try the Proraso last night.

WOW! I AM A FAN! It feels great, glides well, and smells wonderful.

I got the tub of sensitive Proraso but I haven't tried it yet.

I could happily shave with nothing but Proraso for the rest of my life. I occasionally use MWF, Tabac, and the other "must haves", but none of them yield a better result than Proraso, especially during the hot summer months.
