Proraso=easiest lathering soap?

Any shave with Proraso gives me complete opaque face coverage after about 4 seconds of stirring in the tub, and 15 seconds of rubbing on the face. With the Wilkinson soap, I have yet to achieve that no matter how much I stir. And while I like the smell of my Real Shaving Co. cream, it takes upwards of 2 minutes to get the same result.

The smell of Proraso turns me off, otherwise I would be stuck to this stuff like glue. Is there any other soap out there that can get a great lather this fast?

it's dead simple to lather up a storm. Nice, protective lather. The scent is strong and distinctive and bothers some, though. Irisch Moos by the same manufacturer lathers about as well and has a different, less obtrusive scent.

Yes I have heard awesome things about Tabac. Kind of afraid of all the negativity over the smell. Is it a deep barbershop smell or something completely terrible?

Hello fellow Canuck . . . I can feel I can safely say that all the Mama Bear Soaps lather up very quickly I've used about 10 and the price is not bad even importing them into Canada. I used to use Floris shave cream it to whipped very quickly . . . quite a different scent than Proraso. There is also JM Fraser that you can purchase at Toronto Barber Supply which is so soft you don't actually care if you get it whipped up . . . just my 2 cents.

it's inexpensive enough to buy a puck and give it a try. It's has a cologne-like smell, sort of strong, like something from the 70's.

Are you talking about Proraso Green soap? I have yet to try the white tea... but I would imagine it smelling very subtle with a different scent profile. I hear its even better then the green soap.

Cologne like huh....I thought of it as more of an overpowering floral smell....:smile: As such I have only used it once, but it will be used for many many more times; eventually I have to grow to like the smell...right? I hope so..:lol:

As for alternatives to the Proraso soap, I would have to recommend P160, it lathers like mad, but does also have a really strong almond smell, which I happen to really enjoy.

I have the Proraso Aloe and Green Tea soap, and while it lathers up just fine (and is lightly mentholated to boot), it isn't exactly a winner in the scent arena.

Having shaved twice with P160, I can vouch for its efficacy, but the scent leaves me cold. My wife likes it, though, and it is mild enough that it doesn't linger post-shave.

I actually like the smell of Tabac shaving soap. If you aren't afraid of selling stuff you don't like, pucks of Tabac tend to sell quickly on the BST here when someone puts one up for sale. There seems to be quite a few Tabacaholics who are willing to give good homes to unwanted pucks. If you are so concerned about the scent, try the Irisch Moos instead.

First time i've read that, hrm what does it smell like? I've been thinking about picking some up for myself.

It really doesn't smell like much of anything at all. I can smell the menthol in it, but that is about it. The soap seems geared totally toward efficacy and not a whit toward scent, which is probably to be expected with any sensitive skin formulation.

Tabac lathers pretty easily and shaves better than many soaps. Although I am not wild about the smell, I don't mind it. Neither very strong nor offensive.

Oh man. Proraso Green Tub lathers like a dream! Stuff is one of my top 3 and I've got some good quality Tallow soaps too...(Penhaligons, DR Harris etc, Old Wrisley SS)

Proraso soaps lathered great for me. I had a difficult time lathering the cream, but probably from using too little product. Unfortunately, the white seemed not to be slick enough. In the interim while waiting for the green soap I became a Tabac fan and realized I was not about the menthol. I just recently sold all my Proraso.

The white tea tree and aloe proraso has almost no scent at all. It is a FANTASTIC soap though. Very gentle on the skin. Great lather, slick, lubrilicious, and no nicks.
