Le Pere Lucien soap, disappointing lather

With my Dovo Citrus Lion (Ariana & Evans made, awesome soap) soap almost over, I decided to try out something else. I got me a can of LPL Oud-Santal but I got quickly disappointed by the lather it makes. It is relatively thick, nowhere close to that the Dovo makes though, but foamy, not creamy and dries out really fast. By the time I got my right cheek done, the lather on the rest of my face had already turned to something dry dust alike. It is hot where I live during this season, with temperatures steady over 30 deg C. Am I doing something wrong? I start with a dump brush and add water just enough to prevent airy foam coming out. It looks creamy, but in less than a minute it dries out. Adding a couple of glycerine drops to the lather would make things any better?

Is it the same soap?

Traditionnel and Oud-Santal are my favorite soaps. Especially the second not so much for its scent, but for the lather it gives.
A tip for life long shelf life: Take the quantity to use in your lather bowl instead of wetting the jar of the soap. It will last forever.

It is different. It is cheaper compared to Dovo, and with different ingredients. LPL seems being a tallow based soap. Does that matter?
But you say in the above post I quoted that the LPL Oud-Santal lather was a favourite for you? This is the same one you can't lather now?

Look, this post here:

What has changed?

Oh my! Honestly I don't remember having ever used it! I don't know what's wrong with what I have now. Could it be a bad batch, or something that has been left unsold for too long?

No worries :)

I suggest you take a damp brush, load it heavy, face lather a bit, then using a bowl add water gradually, work up the lather, return to face.

Enough product, more water added gradually in drops. That should work for any soap.

Unfortunately it didn't work. A look at the label at the bottom of the package reads lot 2021 256. I assume that it comes from a batch that dates back to 2021. Being a tallow based soap, and if it is of 2021, it could be that it is already done. Blast! I bought it from a store on offer.

I have a tin of Oud Neroli that behaves almost identically. About the only way I could get it to work, using a bowl, is to load with a very wet brush, very soupy, and don't whip it much, lather some of it up on the face, shave quickly, then repeat for the next pass. In other words, don't work what's in the bowl until you put it on your face. Otherwise the lather starts out great but dissipates quickly.

It's a shame because it's one of my favorite scents, but I don't often use it due to the hassle.

This soap works with some, but not with me either.
However, the 200ml size tin makes a really great lathering bowl.

Had a similar experience with LPL Oud-Santal. I bought is directly from LPL and in the beginning the lather was excellent. Two years later it just stopped performing. I tried wet brush - dry/dump brush, loading more - loading less, hot water - cold water, different brushes... I even removed the soap from the container and knead it like dough. Nothing worked.

Is seems the best way to enjoy this soap is to use it regularly in a small rotation.

On the brighter side, LPL website is selling 98g refills.

I don’t have these experiences whit LPL, i do bloom the soap if I didn’t use it for a while. Than load a damp brush for a minute, and make a lather on the face or in a bowl mixing in enough water until the lather has a nice shine.

Hope this helps
