Proaso vs. Omega.some thoughts

Just used Proraso green today for the first time. I came up using Omega in the tub and am really partial to it. I guess I'm a pretty basic guy, as I find that I look forward to using my Omega Boar professional bush (you know, the huge boar brush with the cheesy plastic "chrome" handle). It's wonderfully broken in, very soft tip, but firm. Really lathers well and I can feel it work the face. Using this brush, here's my thoughts on the creams:

Proraso smells better than the Omega. I like that menthol scent. It didn't lather up in the bowl as well as Omega, but lathered up much better in the face. That may be a better approach when using a boar. The Proraso didn't dry out as quickly as the Omega. In fact, I don't think it dried at all on my face. Omega is noticeably slicker and I'm able to whip my SS across the face with more abandon. Omega leaves me with more of a "clean" feel (like a soap), but the Proraso feels clean enough.

For the price difference (Omega about $7.50 for a tub and Proraso at anywhere from $11.50 to $15), I think the Omega has an edge. In fact, if you take away the menthol scent of the Proraso, Omega is a clear winner, in my estimate. Why put so much emphasis on scent? because I think that's part of the overall effect and lends to more enjoyment of the shaving process. For now, I think I'll keep both products on hand and work them into a routine.

Thanks for the side by side comparison.

I've been curious about Omega cream and it sounds like quality cream for a great price.

Like you I believe that scents make shaving a more enjoyable experience. But you tend to pay a little more for that luxury.

I used Omega for the first time yesterday. Actually my first time using a "croap". Very easy to lather and the lather was really nice. It wasn't perfect--but it was my first time with it. I have every confidence it will be one I use for a long time. I was going to get the Proraso, but I typically avoid mentholated products. I'm sure I will try Proraso in the near future based on the love for it here.

Thanks for the great review. I never tried Omega croap but have the cream. And since you mentioned Omega being slicker I might give it a try next time I place an order. I am with you when it comes to scent, as I consider performance of utmost importance.

I have only used CO Bigelow cream (Proraso) as it is available locally and the large tube is available for $5 for the large tube at times during the year. It works for me and I like to use it in the summer. I have often wondered how the Omega croap performed in comparison. I will purchase some to compare. I find that by adding a drop or two of avocado oil to some of the soaps and creams that dry during use improve their performance.
