Prefered drying method

So what is the best way to dry a double edge razor blade and to prolong it's life? If this is allready discussed somewhere, can somebody post the link? Thanks.

There are thread abound about drying blades. Some people take 'em and dry them on a towel, some dip them in alcohol, some dip the whole razor head in alcohol. IMO you wont hurt them by just letting them be. When I am done shaving I just dry the razors handle and drop the whole thing in a toothbrush holder. The next shave I dip the head in alcohol just to kill any nasties.

Sometimes, in our zeal, we needlessly complicate things. There is a line, methinks, betwixt ritual and fetish. Just take it easy and all will be well.

In any event, all my razors are clean and in good working order and I shake 'em and leave the blades to air-dry. When needed, I lightly scrub with a toothbrush and dish soap. My blades I simply leave be.

what i have done in the past is run the razor head under hot water, shake and place it in front of a window where the sun hits in the morning. This only works when I shave in the morning.

I just rinse under warm water, shake, and then use a towel to dry the razor, taking care not to touch to blade edges. I change my blade every 3 shaves anyway which enables me to thoroughly wash the razor and start afresh with a new blade.

I rinse the razor under hot water for 20-30 seconds and shake vigorously to dry. You can also dip the razor head in a little jar of isopropyl alcohol - displaces the remaining water and disinfects the razor to boot!

Rinse it it hot water, shake it and put it down. I get close to 7 shaves out of Feathers and SIs. Why fuss with them.

I clean the razor as required, but we have soft water so it is not required often.

+1, I do exactly this. I'm not worried about rust, but even softened tap water will have some dissolved minerals. I'm of the opinion that these can crystallize on the blade edge while the water dries, making the blade feel prematurely dull.

I hear all this about cleaning a razor, clean and whipping the blade.

When I change the blade, I give the razor a good wipe and make sure it is clean and shinny.

When I shave, I dump my shaver into the water the hot water with my brush, this warms it up nicely.

After i shave I dump it in the water again, shake it and let it dry. I have never had a blade rust on me even when I have left a blade in the razor while on vacation.

Am I doing something I should not? I love the feel of the warm razor.

Modern DE blades are stainless and coated, they wont rust on you. We're talking about leaving the blade wet causing micro-degradation of the edge leading to quicker dulling.

I just rinse the razor well under running water, shake the water out, and then dip in a small jar of isopropyl alcohol I keep by the sink for just this purpose. Then I just let the razor air dry. I think everyone has a little different ritual they do post-shave. Does the alcohol keep the blade from rusting? Not really sure, but this is just what I do.:001_smile

I dip mine in alcohol as well but I remove the blade from the razor. I know...I am tempting fate but this is what I do. I don't have a container big enough for me to dip the razor and blade into it together. I should probably invest in this shortly.

Remove blade from razor rinse and shake... sometimes I pat the blade dry and gets placed back into its package for the next shave

I probably overkill it, but this is what I do.

I rinse the razor with the TTO doors loose. Then, I remove the blade and place it on a towel. I fold the other half of the towel over and blot the blade gently. I dry the razor, inside and out, with another towel. Then I replace the blade, leave the doors slightly ajar, and place the razor in its rack for use the next day.

I find it doubtful that I'm removing any coatings from the blade with this simple towel blot technique. On the other hand, it is probably a compltely unnecessary step.

My method is the same except I put the blade in a small Baggie after removing it from the towel since I never use the same razor two days in a row.
