What's new

Poor man's tools!

Good evening gentlemen.

The object of this thread is to give ideas to other newbies, like myself,
to save money.

Before commenting, remember that i'm being creative because I'm trying
to save a few bucks. And as a beginner, this should at least spice up my
shaving experience.

What I did:

1- A brush holder made from a coat hanger.
2- A customized brush. The only thing missing is a silvertip 18mm knot!
I found this old and cheap boar brush in my closet that I haven't noticed
in years because it was hidden.
So I removed the hairs, sanded the handle and painted it black. It looks OK to me. :thumbup1:

So... hate it or like it, please rate it!!! :biggrin1:

Enjoy the pics.

Yes, absolutely Xezmer. Haha.

It works really well man.

What do you think of the brush!! Honestly?
If you are planning to remove the hair from the omega and use that it should look good.
Some jet black paint for the stand would enhance the look as well.

It looks more comfortable than the omega, i'll say that much.

And for the stand you could've probably bent the holdster part in a square fashion.

Here's a shot from my old den (my AD got so out of hand I needed a bigger spot)

Interesting idea, but I just bought the omega.
So I will wait when it gets old to modify it.
Thanks for the post.

In my early wetshaving days I made a brush stand out of a coat hanger, mine did not turn out nearly as nice as yours. Good work. :thumbup1:

There was another guy from Michigan a couple of weeks ago who did this also. I am impressed because they have such good quality coat hangers. Down here, all I get is this thin steel for coat hangers (shirt hangers).

This may be the last generation who can make a brush stand from a coat hanger. A pity.

You gotta go with what works, I'm all for any idea that helps save some $$, thats more to spend on more soaps/creams/razors, etc. I'm going to have to give one of these hanger stands a go, maybe over the weekend. Thanks for sharing!
