Hey guys, just like the title says, I'm looking to get a new puck of soap and I'm looking at either Trumper's Coconut or something from DR Harris.

Can anyone shed some light on which they prefer and why?

Also, I would like to get some sort of idea as to what "Marlborough" and "Arlington" smell like if you would be so kind.

I should also mention that I really enjoy a nice and slick, slippery lather as opposed to one with more cushion.

Also if anyone can post the formulations of these it would be greatly appreciated. :thumbup1:

For those of you who have voted for Harris and haven't left a comment, which scent do you prefer?

I voted Harris, because I prefer tallow soaps in most cases.

I can get a perfectly acceptable lather from Trumpers soaps, but prefer the Harris products. The lather is quick, thick, and slick

I have GFT Coconut and like it. Smells like baking coconut, as opposed to suntan lotion coconut, if that makes any sense.

I have Harris Marlborough, Arlington and Lavender.

Marborough is predominantly cedar to my nose.
Arlington is lemon and fern mostly.
Lavender to me is generic "floral", very clean smelling and pleasant.

I totally forgot that Trumpers is no longer tallow.

Thanks for chiming in and giving me a scent rundown. I may also have to consider adding AOS to my poll

I voted for Harris - Arlington is my favorite.

The lavender is very light and nowhere near as strong as QCS

Marlborough is very much a love it or hate it one and I would avoid that for your first harris. Haven't tried the almond, but that is because there are better italian products than Harris and they are pretty much all almond scented.

If you are thinking of adding AOS to the pull - I would vote for that. Better lather than both Harris and GFT. Sandalwood is my favorite.

If you don't care about scent too much you can save some money and buy Valobra. Same stuff as AOS.

I'm actually going to Rome the fist week of November and I want to get a few things and Valobra is on that list as, like you said, they make the soaps for AOS.

Valobra
Proraso Splash
Cella
all on my list of things to grab in Rome.

I mention the AOS because I stopped by there while I was in the mall today and boy, do all 4 of those ("unscented" included) smell GREAT! Hard to resist!

Two very good soaps, but I didn't hesitate to vote for the DR Harris. The Lavender is one of my favorite soaps.

Picked DRH. I think the Marlborough is a sort of dignified wood scent -- not strong, I don't think, and certainly not sweet. Think dried tobacco/cedar, with no real sweetness. Seems like it would go perfectly with Alt-Innsbruck. I like the Arlington, but I find it to be a tad sweet, and not as suited for fall/winter.

I have GFT Violets and DR Harris Arlington, and I prefer the lather from DR Harris. The scent is citrus, and it's nice. I recommend you get both.

My Trumper's soap has been relegated to little more than a puck to break in new brushes... The Arlington though, is a great soap.

Harris, because I prefer a good tallow soap, I have right now only the Lavender and I think it is pretty nice.

Used them both, prefer Trumper's.
You'll end up trying them both at some point.
that's the way this game is played. :thumbup1:

They're both top notch. Despite the lack of tallow, the Trumpers is every bit as good as the Harris, and they offer a wider selections of scents. There is very little overlap between them, save the almond, so just pick a flavor you enjoy.

I have both DRH Arlington and Trumper's Coconut. I've found that the DRH Arlington is significantly easier to lather. The Trumper's Coconut is a very hard soap, and it takes more effort to load the brush from it. It does seem to be worth the effort, and the more I use it, the more I like it. Still, I would recommend starting with the DRH.
