Pointless to Convert Friends

I tried converting a friend of mine a few months ago to using a DE. He's always complaining about the cost of cartridges. So, I gave him a cost breakdown to show him how much he would save using a DE as long as AD didn't set in. I never heard back from him about it.

Today, I sent him the Wall Street Journal article posted in another thread. He responded back saying he just started using the Fusion. Yes, he drank the Kool-Aid again.

I then offered him a black tip SS and blades for free to try. He said that he might take me up on the offer once he works through the stuff he has. I bet he won't.

If you keep pushing, you stand the risk of sounding like a sales man...You've done what you can. Take a step back and let knowledge work its course...it may or may not :001_smile

Cheers,
Robert

6 out of 13 of the guys in my office wetshave now and use a DE, including my boss who purchased on his own 100 Feathers and Tabac.

This was the result of a well timed PIF of a starter kit if they showed any interest at all.

Talking to folks doesn't work, and a PIF won't work if they are not interested to begin with.

I'm in the same boat you're in. I want to tell my friends the "good news" but they seem uninterested. I just figure, plant the seed, give it time, and if anything comes from it, then it's a victory :thumbup1:

You need to pick your targets carefully  but don't feel bad if they wont come around it's not like you have a quota to fill. :001_smile

People have to want to try it, I converted my wife and she is converting friends of hers because they actually wanted something different and like the classic things. It all comes down to what the individual wants.

In all my years of shaving I've never thought to convert anyone.

By default I have influenced my son to DE shaving. All dad has in the house to shave with are metal razors and loose blades. It was either use these or the plastic ones mommy shaves her legs with... dad wins!

The wife is stuck in her ways!
Actually she has used my Gillette a couple of times. If I remember correctly she complained about getting too many nicks.

Talk is not very productive, especially if it's in the form of unsolicited advice. However, if someone expresses an interest or is looking to solve a shaving problem, it's at that point that you can delicately pique their interest and offer to lend them gear. If you proselytize, it will sound like we're trying to convert people to a cult. Remember, wet shaving isn't mainstream anymore.

I was born in 66 and it's been my experience that most people of my generation want to be lied too. Lather and blades that didn't come from a gillion dollar laboratory can't possibly be any good. Kinda like steel buildings can collapse into their own foot print because of a fire. For most people its easier to be ignorant.

One of the guys i work with is going to order an Omega brush and try lathering up some KMF. He absolutely LOVES his Mach3, and won't even discuss other possibilities.

I guess lathering KMF with a boar brush is a step in the right direction.:thumbup1:

+1 to this...picking your targets is key. But all the recent media doesn't hurt the discussion and gives you ammo to point to when needed!:biggrin1:

I wish someone had converted me earlier.

I originally found out about DE shaving from a different forum, and a thread that was started about shaving. Someone posted up that they used a DE, and that the blades cost them cents.

From this point I thought, hey, why not.

It's tough to do the conversions - I've made a few and failed a few other times. I'm going to PIF a few things to a cousin soon. He seems to like traditional things and an old razor might get his interest.
