Please Help me, my Fat Boy Razor gone Black

Damn i just stuffed up my fat boy razor it was bit dirty so i took a pot put some vinegar and mixed water in it and left it to boil in the water , can you believe it it my razor went black now i am so cross and up set with my self i could scream and hit myslef.

Do you maybe know how i can restore it back to its original color?

The vinegar has tarnished the silver plating.

Try making a (hopefully watertight) tray from aluminum foil. Put in the razor and a couple tablespoons of baking soda (bicarbonate of soda) and then pour in boiling water. Hopefully this will remove the tarnish, without damaging too much of the silver plating.

Obviously, never, ever, use vinegar or other scidic products on your razor again.

JMO. With the plethora of chemical cleaners and sanitizers available today, there is absolutely no reason whatsoever to boil a razor.
Just because it's an antique razor doesn't mean you have to use antique methods to clean them.

I had a similar experience today, so I started searching the forum and found this thread.

After reading all the rave reviews of vinegar baths, I left my newly acquired slim soaking in vinegar and water overnight. This morning, it was clean all right, but covered in thin black tarnish. I thought I'd wrecked it. :cursing:

After hunting around here, I tried the aluminum foil and baking soda trick. As that's primarily for silver, it didn't help much. (Probably something to do with electron affinity or valence of nickel vs. silver.)

Then... I tried plain old toothpaste and a good scrubbing with a soft bristled tooth brush. BINGO! A couple scrubbings, all of five minutes each, and it was as shiny as can be. :thumbup1:

p.s. I don't know if it was the vinegar, foil and baking soda, toothpaste, or some combination, but I'm pretty sure the adjuster indicator numbers lost some paint along the way. I'm not too upset about that, but it might be something you want to keep in mind.
