Perfume: The Story of a Murderer

My wife ordered a new batch of Netflix movies and this came the other night. Wow, it was awesome. A little off the wall, but I thought it was a stunning movie. Cinematography was beautiful... I highly recommend it.

However the story might not be up everyones alley...

Preferred the literary incarnation personally.

I didn't know that it was based on a Novel. The movie was great, I watched it shortly after it had started, so any refernce to "based on the Novel by..." was missed.

For info, I assume the Title of the book is the same?

Yes, the author is Patrick Süskind. FWIW, it was one of Kurt Cobain's favorite books. He even wrote a song about it, which is what initially piqued my interest in it several years ago.

Just watched it on the 12 after seeing it mentioned in the Ask the Soapers thread and enjoyed it. I would have preferred Alan Rickman as the washed up perfumist more than the protective, but eventually useless guardian. Bottle Shock vs Sweeney Todd, I guess.

Going to stop by the local book stores to see if I can grab a copy of the book on the cheap tomorrow.

+1. Movie was very meh.

To put a finer point on it, the book was great, as I recall. The movie had some great cinematic type stuff--some very memrable images--and some good acting, but requiring a greater and greater suspension of disbelief as it got closer to the end. As Rotten Tomato said as consensus: "a kinetic visual feast, with a dark antihero that's impossible to feel sympathy for."
