What's new

Penhaligon's

Has anyone noticed the flood of Penhaligon's soap on eBay from a Scottish Vendor based in Falkirk.

Scottish Fine Soaps are located in Falkirk, has production moved there? I thought they were made in Tiverton along with the Floris soaps.

Truth be told, after having tried Penhaligon's Shaving Soaps, they would be one of the last things which I would need to search e-bay for.

They have switched their formulation. I have a fresh bowl of English Fern and it is up there with the very best. Different ingredients than the versions with poor reviews. If you are thinking of buying, just make sure you get the latest. You won't be disappointed. If there is a flood of product from one source I would be checking into why, just like the OP, or buying from a trusted source, as I did.

Where'd you buy it? Would you take a picture of the ingredient list? I have a bowl of the bad-performing version.

Is it possible for you to post ingredients from you good, newest formulation so that someone with the bad "totalpileofcrap" formulation can verify a formulation change for us all.

This might be the first reformulation that actually improved a product that I can think of.

This is great news! Unfortunately I recently bought the "old reformulation" and it was very disappointing. I had to grate and mix it with a stick of La Toja, without it the lather was airy and mediocre at its peak.

We need pics of the crap one and the new one....that will be more definitive....c'mon guys this could be very good news tonight

So is somebody starting a rumor that they have reformulated the reformulation? We're going to need definitive proof, not just rumors.

We need a pic of the ingredient list of this so-called reformulated reformulation as soon as possible. K.Thnx.Bye.

Here are the ingredients for the bad formulation:

You've got my attention now. By the way, Scottish Fine Soaps does not list anything from Penhaligons. Must be someone else. I need to know where the great-lathering Pens soaps are being sold, and what the ingredient list says.

A picture or a list of ingredients would be greatly appreciated by scores of members here.

u2u where ru? We need to know the new formulation :biggrin1:.

Ben

An impatient lot you guys are! When I recently purchased mine I looked up some lists and photos of the soap gents were griping about. Mine was different and definitely fresh stock, bought from a new shop, with the finest people running the show. I have used it several times and it performs very well.

Here is the list:
wish this was short like MdC...

Sodium palmate, potassium stearate, sodium cocoate, sodium stearate,
aqua(water), potassium cocoate, glycerin, parfum (fragrance),
tetrasodium EDTA, sodium chloride, alpha-isomethyl ionone, linalool,
citronellol, coumarin, bisabolol, tocopheryl acetate, evernia
prunastri (oakmoss) extract, amyl cinnamal, tetrasodium etidronate,
geraniol, eugenol, limonene, benzoyl benzoate, CI 77891 (titanium dioxide),
CI 77289 (chromium hydroxide green), CI 19140 (yellow 5 lake),
CI 77492 (iron oxides), CI 77007 (ultra marines).

Lot number on the box is 26609. Anyone know how to decode it?

All the ingredients are printed in gold directly onto the green box. Not at all like Rand77.

As an aside, can one post a photo directly from an ipad or iPhone? Faster photo if I can. $English Fern Post.jpg So, as you will note, a couple of added ingredients, and a shuffling of the proportion of others. Be interesting if we could hear from someone with the right background that could explain the reasoning for the changes.

ok, so I glanced at the ingredient list and the order they are in....the new formulation (all green back box) has ingredients in different order than the old (back with black box background) and it has a few ingredients omitted in the new that were in the old.

Not sure if this makes all the difference, my brother is the organic chemist PHD in the family....but it does look to line up with u2u's post about the new being different and better.
