Penhaligon's samples

How have people gone about getting samples of Penhaligon's colognes (I guess EdT's, but y'know)?

I emailed them requesting samples (at the byrequestUSA/at/penhaligons address) and provided an address, but have received no response. I've read posts here indicating that they did indeed receive samples, though.

Did they email you back when they sent samples? Did they email you back at all? Did it take a while?

Thanks!

Hm... I've read several times that people have received free sample vials; was I mistaken?

If you call their US customer service number and don't ask for a boatload of samples, they'll probably send you some. They have in the past, at least. Once you're getting into more than 2 or 3 samples, I assume they'll want you to purchase the scent library.

Speaking of the scent library, if you decide to buy it, call them instead of ordering online and they will customize it for you. You don't have to get it with five women's scents if you don't want to.

Edit: I see xillion beat me to the punch about the customized scent library.

double check the address it's byrequestusa/@/penhaligons/./com

this is what I got from them when asking for a soap or cream sample

Unfortunately Penhaligon’s does not provide samples of shaving creams and soaps. We do provide sample fragrances of your choice.

Penhaligon’s offers one complementary sample of your choice. You can make this selection by visiting www.penhaligons.com . If you wish to sample all our fragrance we suggest you purchase our Scent Library which contains ten sample vials.

You may provide us with the name of fragrance you would like to try. Include your mailing address where we can send your sample.

I emailed them (twice :tongue_sm) and got free samples.

However never sent me what I asked for. Just threw some vials in a envelope. And on one occasion sent me two vials of Elixir(YUCK!)

I did receive an email back. It took about 48 hours though.

In all they sent me 3 of the 4 samples that I was most interested in, and sent a follow up email telling me they were out of my 4th selection.

That seems to be a crap chute...I heard that some have had trouble getting samples

My experience was different...I emailed HQ (NY and London) asking few questions about engineering of their scents and what certain things meant...next thing I know, the manager emailed me (albeit 1-2 weeks later) answering all my questions. I inquired about their samples and 3 days later, I had 8 samples, FedEx-ed to my door. She also said if I needed more to let them know and they would express mail the scents I wanted.

I think based on others and my experiences, I would recommend sending them an email asking some poignant questions and showing genuine interest in their products. Once they determine that you are a serious customer, there's nothing they won't do for you

A couple days ago, I emailed the byrequestUSA address and received a response within a few hours. I requested a few things, but am not sure what they'll actually send. Can't complain about free samples, for sure.

I found sample vials at Luckyscent.com but they are not free. I was able to order a .7 ml vial of 7 different Pen fragrances I was interested in and to me it was well worth it because there was enough to use each scent for at least 2 days. I spent around $24 which is cheap considering the price of just one 100ml bottle.

I like Blenheim Bouquet the best.

If you want free samples, you need to call them. After they ignored several of my e-mails, I finally called them, and they sent a few.

I also emailed asking for a sample of a couple colognes and shave creams. I received an email reply about 2 days later saying they don't give samples of creams. I replied back saying that was fine, but if I could get samples of just the scents instead that would be fine.

About 2 or 3 weeks later I got an envelope that contained one of the scents I had asked for (Limes) and 1 sample of a woman's perfume (victorian posey). Didn't get a sample of the endymion or BB that I had asked for.

Basically my experience. I just received a large envelope today, containing one sample. Not sure how they chose this one; just seems a bit random. Whoever called it a crapshoot above described it best, I think.

I read this thread, emailed them, and got a sample of Opus 1870, Limes, and Elixir. :)

the amount of total randomity at work here is insane.

i emailed twice, never received a response, and have received no samples.

bah.

Did Penhaligon's stop selling in retail USA stores or something? It seems like they don't have much of a setup for USA distribution. Compared to the envelope Pen's sent, I've received nicer packaging from B&B transactions. Maybe that's just a compliment to you all.

That is a pretty crappy looking envelope. The label was made by Word, using stock fonts. Definitely not the quality of Trumper.

With that said, Blenheim Bouquet (I got it off ebay) and Castile are amazing scents that cause me to sniff my wrist every 10-15 minutes. :thumbup1:
