Penhaligons Endymion

I tried Penhaligons Endymion SC for the first time today, recently having received a sample from Jim at Vintage Blades with a brush I bought from him.

Using it with a Shavemac 23mm silvertip and lathering a little in a bowl but primarily on my face, I got tons of luxurious lather almost immediately (as a soap user, I'm used to working a little harder before the lather "expoldes"). I got a good, but not great shave, although that is more down to the fact that I used a Red Tip and a yellow 7 O'Clock, which is not a favorite combination (it seems like it should be, but it's not).

The thing by which I am most impressed is that, although the scent is mild, it seems to linger all day. Even though it is about 11 hours since my shave, and the scent of my Royall Bay Rhum AS splash is long gone, I am still getting nice little "whiffs" of the Penhaligons.

I might just have to reconsider the place of SC in my rotation.

Enjoy!

Endymion is amazing, has a sweetish fragrance. Not an everyday scent for me but in small doses, I like using the cream in my rotation for that 'special shave'.

I love it, but can't imagine paying a big premium to get the scent in a SC. Penhaligon's creams are 3-4x the cost of other good creams and, IMO, nothing justifies the upcharge.

Well, like I said, I got it as a sample but, if I decide I really love it, I would shell out $40 for a tube, understanding that it is not an "everyday" cream, but one that will be nursed and probably last more than a year.

One of the best creams on the market IMO. Although I don't use it very often every application is memorable. I also like the legend on the package - almost brings tears to your eyes, with a little help from Osage Rub.

Penhaligon's gives you both efficacy and great scents. If there aren't any Pen's fragrances that completely knock your socks off, then it wouldn't make sense to pay the premium. That said, I've not found a puck of shaving soap that smells better than their English Fern, and I've not found a tube/tub of shaving cream that smells better than their Castile. Scent, for me, plays a big part in my shaving experience. I don't care to shave with something that I think smells bad, and conversely, a good-smelling product greatly enriches my enjoyment. Some folks are more utilitarian in their approach, and only judge products based on effectiveness--these folks should not pony up the extra for Penhaligon's products unless they come across a sufficiently discounted item.

I should mention that with a little searching via Google yesterday, I was able to locate a vendor that sells Penhaligon's Endymion cream in the 150 mL tube for less than 20 bucks. I can't remember for sure, but I think it was the Perfumed Court or something like that.

Surely this fine cream is worth THAT.

I wonder if one could simply find an unscented cream they really like, then add whatever fragrance they crave in whatever amount turns them on. Might save a bit of cash.

I add various EOs - geranium is one of my favorites, to AOS unscented cream and get excellent results. I only use this method for creams that I can't buy ready made to a quality that I like. The problem with something like Endymion is that the juice is pretty expensive to begin with, so making your own mix might not save anything IMO.

+1 and very well stated. I am new to Penhaligon's , but really like the English Fern and BB.

I picked some of this up from the Wynn in Vegas a couple days ago and it's very nice. The consistency is different than Castile for some reason....either way it's a top notch cream.
