After dulling out my razor stropping I had to hit the balsa. I decided to lay my strop on the counter and try it out. Back to shaving sharp. Where can I get a good paddle strop? Any downside to paddle other than missing out on the cool look of a hanging?

No downside really. They work fine, and are probably easier for the new guys because it stays flat, and gives you less opportunity to get the tension wrong and roll your edge. Most of the commercially available ones seem to be on the small side, but you could make your own full size one easily enough.
Some say that the slight give that the hanging strop has works more effectively on the edge, but I have not noticed a big difference.

I actually prefer to strop on hanging strops. I made this paddle strop from roo leather, backed by glass, it is very nice, works great, I never use it.

I looked at star shaving. Confused by hollow, framed etc. which is best.
