What's new

Oxford shirts like House wears.

What are some inexpensive, more slim-fitting, oxford shirts that are shorter so they can be worn untucked? The kind Hugh Laurie wears on house.

Get some shirts that are close to the fit you want, shirt tails don't matter. Take them to your tailor and have her (or him) take it in to your body shape and ask them to bring the tail up to a few inches below your beltline. It should run $20-30 for the tailoring. I'd suggest thrift stores for the shirts ($2-3) to keep costs down (hard if you're an odd size, easy if you're 15.5-17" neck and 32-33" sleeve. This method will yield a shirt that fits you better than anything off the rack.

Most trendy stores (Abercrombie, American Eagle, Aeropostale') will have shirts that meet your demands. They have the new dress trend of clothing, that does not fit the normal "dress up" standards.

J. Crew makes good shirts that aren't too expensive. For really nice shirts you can try Saks and get a good designer shirt.

Abercrombie stores have always scared me. The heavy smell of some cologne that you can smell just by walking buy, the large picture of some shirtless guy, and the loud music have always kept me away. I've actually never even been inside one.

I'll second the suggestion to have thrift finds altered. Just get shirts that fit in the sleeve, shoulder, and chest. Everything else is negotiable, and at a pretty low cost.

I wear slim fit Chalres Tyrwhitt dress shirts untucked with jeans out on occassion. The tails are a good 2-3 inches shorter than the 'normal' fit shirts... they are a little dressier though than an oxford.

J Crew does have some that are perfect for wearing untucked (at least the ones are I got a year or two ago)...

Yep. Their marketing and image pretty much indicate that I'm not the target market segment :001_rolle

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I secretly want to be House. And I know if he shaved, he'd probably use a DE.
