Overgrooming

I noticed on Mantic's recent video at Truefitt & Hill that the barber talked about the danger of overgrooming your face. It has got me thinking about my routine and results.

This week, I have been alternating between using my standard shave soap and brush and a brushless cream. I have noticed that on the days I use the brushless cream, my face is less irritated. This may be because I am over zealous with the brush and / or I am much more careful with the razor when using a brushless cream because there is (theoretically at least) less protection. Perhaps as we all keep trying new things, we may be getting carried away with our grooming.

Interested to know your thoughts and experiences ..

It certainly seems plausible. What kind of brush are you using? Maybe the bristles are irritating your face. I was having that problem until I switched to silvertip Shavemac brushes.

I am using a chubby 2 2-band - very soft tips but admittedly quite a monster.

I suppose my real question is whether or not we all overgroom a bit (as we are all a bit obsessed ... must be to be on this site, right?) .. and would do slightly better if we all backed off on our prep, facial washes, passes, aftershave combos, etc etc

Just a thought ..

Depending on the products, it could also be that the brushless cream has better moisturizing properties than the soap.

Would it be fair to say that brushless creams (I am using shavex) often have more glide (and therefore may offer more protection), but the very ingredients that offer the glide actually prevent you from getting a very close shave?
