Out of the Vault #2: Bay Rum

Gather 'round friends! Draw closer to the flickering screen!

My team of researchers here in the Aftershaves thread have been combing through the past archives, searching for threads that will elucidate, edify and amaze!

My friends, follow me back to a simpler time. When men could gather together after a long, hard day and spend hours talking about bay rum. What is that, you ask? Didn't they know about the soothing British potions, the luxurious designer splashes, the comforting Italian concoctions? Who is to say? Perhaps they sought a greater truth!

I can tell I am going to eventually get caught in an embarassing change in opnion about one product or another with this way back machine unearthings!

Do any local chains carry any other Pinaud products? I can only find the classic Pinaud locally. I would love to try out some of the other Pinaud aftershaves.

EDIT: Nevermind, I saw a post in the linked thread about Sally's Beauty Supply. I will have to check it out.

Sally's has greatly reduced the number of Pinaud products they carry. A number of Walgreen's drug stores have the Bay Rum in addition to the Clubman. I just checked and there's only a couple of their stores in the Dallas area that still have it.

You can get sample sized bottles here, but there are a number not currently in stock including the Bay Rum.

"Got Shoes?"
I had several Pinaud aftershaves (i.e. Clubman, Special Reserve, Lilac Vegetal and Lime Sec). All of them gone from the collection never to be replaced save for one...

Pinaud Bay Rum. :thumbup1:

The PVIBR is an essential part of every wetshaving journey. You may not become a fan, but it's one of those things you should try.

I have tried it, I am not a fan. The heavy cloves scent overpowers everything else, destroying the aftershave for me.

I much prefer Master's Bay Rum, or Ogalla Bay Rum. Those two are yummy! :w00t:

Great thread - Kyle had been on the site for about a month, I think?

I am not too proud to admit that the PVIBR (aka PBR) is too much for me. But I find Masters a little weak, and I'm too frugal to throw away the PBR. So I have adapted recipe from ClubmanRob's famous witch-hazel thread (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showpost.php?p=1096094&postcount=8).

* 1 part PVIBR
* 1 part Masters
* 1 part witch-hazel
* 1 part water

This works well. Sometimes I add a little Ogallala to deepen the formula, and I plan to try adding glycerin sometime.

One of the nice things about bay rum is that there are so many varieties. I can find Pinaud at my corner drug store, Dominica at the Orvis store at the mall, Masters in AS section of a local beauty supply store plus several others in the Hoodoo section. Used to be able to get Bigelow at B&BW too.
