Only one pass razor, possible?

I guess it depends on your type of beard and the razor/blade combination, but do some of you manage to get a perfect shave with only one pass?

If so, what DE razor do you use ?

Usually I perform a double pass with a Merkur HD+Gilette Bleue/Dorco/Persona/Derby, but most of the time the 1rst pass does 99% of the task, the 2nd pass is only there to ensure the finish and get the missed spots. I must add that I have a rather light beard (just need to shave every 2 days).

1 pass with my longcomb NEW would actually do if i was in a hurry. Its removes very much of the hair from the start. So yes close to perfect.

One pass shave?! That would never happen to the gents with thick, coarse, dark hair. i need three passes and touch-ups, usually near the chin, upper lip and the jawline and i can still have a bit of stubble.
You are quite fortunate.

I can get away with a DFS one-pass with my bakelite open-comb slant. The 37c, while being a great razor, doesn't do it quite the same.

I use a tech with a Gillette Thin blade and I typically do a 1 pass shave with touch ups on my neck area. I found that going with the second pass, independent of the direction, was diminishing returns for me.

If I'm only going to take one pass, it will be with an injector. A lot of the SE guys swear by them for a single pass, as well.

Why is a single-edge more efficient than a double-edge? Can't envision a mechanical advantage. Is it just one of those "you'd-have-to-try-it-to-understand" kind of things?

I can use aggressive type razors like a Joris, Stahly, Toggle set on 9, Barbasol floating head, with a Polsilver or Feather blade, one pass only quicky shave.

Mergress on 5 with a feather will get me out the door but that 5 o'clock shadow shows up quick! I have a very course black beard and I generally do two passes with some touch up.

After 2 or more days of not shaving, almost any razor will leave me with a fine shave after one pass (maybe some chin touch-up). After that, 2 passes. I've been using an R41 for awhile now, which supplanted Stahly.

Interesting, longer is the beard, closer is the shave. Indeed, I have sometime the feeling that the shave is smoother or easier after some days of not shaving

What direction do you take it? WTG, XTG, ATG or combined?

In my experience the most significant difference is the blade thickness. SE's have a thicker and more rigid blade which seems to help the efficiency. My favourite razor is my only SE (Gem Push Button).
