What's new

Only guy in the Western Hemisphere using Super Thins.

At least, that's what it seems like. I haven't heard anyone else even mention these and I just love 'em. I've used red IPs, Feathers and vintage blue blades, but I like the super thins best of all. I got hold of a vintage ST and it was great, but the modern STs are just as good for me. I have a medium beard and soft skin and I get a week's shaving out of each blade. I get them from B&B member dridiot (on eBay) and, with shipping, they cost me about 15¢ a blade, or just over 2¢ a shave. Mind you, I cork the blade after every use. I've just ordered another 300, plus I'm getting 60 of the platinums. I did just get PIF'd some Merkur blades which I'm going to try solely out of curiosity, but ST is my happy blade. They take a while to get to me as dridiot is located in Singapore, but I don't mind the wait.

I have a batch that I also acquired from dridiot. I've yet to try them but when I get back from vacation they will be on the top of my list!

I have some in my pile of 'to-try' blades. I guess I will be able to use them before Christmas this year...

I just received some from ebay the other week. I have only tried one, but it was very good. Lasted several days with no problems.

However, I think the one's I have are different from DrIdiots. The words in the black part of the wrapper is different, plus the blade writing is a bit different. When I asked dridiot, he said he thinks his are made in China.

Rick, can you tell from you blade wrappers?

Mine appear to be from Vietnam....as far as I can tell.

Of the Modern Super Thins - There are two in Asian production that I've seen. One package is in Vietnamese and the other is (I believe) Thai. Packages are very similar, but distinctly different. Whether or not they are the same blade, or made in China I don't know.

Also, if you can find 'em, Gillette do Brasil makes Super Thin Mejoradas for South and Latin American distribution and these are top quality blades.

I will get a picture of mine to compare, but it will be a cruddy cell phone picture - my toddler got a hold of my digital camera and now it doesn't focus.

I really like that the Vietnamese blades have the old "Known the World Over" logo on them. Nostalgic.

I've only seen the Mejoradas in other threads.

Can anyone comment on the Super Thin Platinums?

I still have the one you included in the old spice cup I bought. I just haven't gotten around to trying it with all the blades I've been sampling. I'll move it up to the top of the list of next to try!

put it in my 1960 ss - which is my mildest razor (and my baseline for new blades or other products when using them for the first time)

nice, smooth shave - maybe not quite as edgy as the derbys (my daily blade)

i can't see any reason not to continue using them

although i've got about two years worth of blades now, so i probably didn't need them

I found dridiot on ebay and was thinking of ordering the Super Thins
I was worried that it would take FOREVER for the blades to arrive. Has his shipping been pretty fast for you folks?
Doing the math I could get 100 super thins from dridiot even cheaper than the dollar store blades and the Russian Greens from the fellow in New York.
I would like to do business with dridiot since he is a B&B member but I worry about shipment from Asia. What do you think, fellers??

i think mine were here in a week or maybe two, so you do have to allow a bit of time

it's not like the one or two days you get with purchases in the states, but the price is great and if you plan ahead it's worth it

less than a week for mine, I ordered a tabac shave stick from him a while back. Hes also a member here with a page in the Vendors Corner, (cheaper pricing than ebay on his blades) Good guy to do business with

Hi all,
The Super Thins that I carry are in the Thai packaging.
Sure, do make a list of what you want from my store and you may send me a PM here...
Regards,
