One Pass & Done.

This weekend was my son's birthday so I was a bit rushed Saturday morning and SWMBO was telling me "you don't have time for your 20 minute shave!"

So I had to compromise... I did my usual routine (shower, use Neutrogena shave cream as pre-shave and then I lathered with TOBS Sandalwood). Using the EJ89 & a 3-shave old Feather, I did one pass WTG then came back with some more lather and did some light buffing around the chin. I gotta say it was not bad at all. Although it was not as smooth, it was nice and presentable.

This morning, I thought I'd give it another go. This time I used AOS Sandalwood soap (all else the same) and again it was a good shave without much irritation.

Anyone do this regularly or are two passes the standard minimum?

I need at least 3 passes and some cleanup with the EJ89, but I was able to get a pretty good 1-pass shave with a Fatip/Feather. I'm not sure my technique is good enough to do this regularly, but that would be nice. I like the EJ89 with more passes as it seems like it yields a DFS for me all the time with different blades. With an OC I have to be a lot more aware of my technique....or lack thereof.

When I am in a pinch for time I just skip the shave. Rarely if ever do I go 2 days without shaving.

I religiously do a 2 to 3 pass shave. I used to just do 2 passes, however I included way too many strokes in those 2 passes. For me it was DFS at best with slight irritation and always thought it was my skin.

What works for me, and again ymmv... I do a 3 pass shave. *** XTG and ATG. With considerably less strokes. Took me 5 years to learn that lol. If presentable is what you are looking for, and you can get it done with that method, then it sounds like your product will last longer, and you will swap blades less frequently. More power to you :)

m139 I have to say I have been tempted to give a single pass a go. I started wet shaving 7-8 months ago and find my first pass much more productive than previous months. I wouldn't be at all concerned about growth in front of clients or family. Good thread. I agree with your thoughts.

I get decent 1 pass shaves with my Muhle R41, I find my skin looks better as there's less irritation . I do 1 pass shaves during the weekday, and 2 pass shaves on the weekend.:wink2:

Of course two passes are better than one but it's been working with very little irritation so I'll stick with it unless I need a smoother finish on special days. I have never tried three passes and I'm not going to because I'm extremely worried about my skin's reaction to an ATG pass.

if I do a one pass shave I do an 'ears to nose' XTG on the face and bottom to top on the neck. usually get a pretty good result.
