What's new

One of those nights :(

Did every thing I have always done. Same prep, razor, blade, cream, technique, etc. but wound up with the most painful shave of my life. Everything burned like crazy, weepers everywhere, when finished my face literally looked like it was sun burned. It looked like this :blushing: which made me feel like :mad3:

When I splashed Aqua Velva on it dropped me to my knees. It was as if I pored battery acid on my face. I didn't even try to go back and do some buffing for BBS.

If this had been my first DE shave there would have never been a second.

I had a shave like that the other day, using all of my most trusted tools. I still haven't figured out what made the difference. What razor were you using? I was using a Slim, and I'm wondering if possibly I didn't have the butterfly doors closed tight enough. I've never had that problem before, but that's all I can figure.

An HD and I checked the blade gaps and alignment. It was a fresh blade so maybe I got a defective one, but I examined it closely and couldn't see any problems with it with the naked eye. I took it out and destroyed it just to be safe though.

I had a bad shave the other day. It was all my fault though, I was in a hurry and did not prep right and technique wasn't there.

Shaved this morning and Ahhhhhh one of my best two pass straight shaves yet. Better than the three pass shaves I did when I first started with a straight.

I had one of those the other night.

In retrospect, I probably should not have shaved after being at the bar.

i feel you on that one, i too, get horrible shaves every once in a while. i always just assumed i was getting used to the "routine" and wasnt paying attention to technique.

Was it a new blade? Every once in a while you get a blade that is just terrible. Switch the blade and you are good to go, but some days the shave gods are against you, in that case your out of luck.

It happens... I would think that the prep or lather would be the faulty item...

It certainly does happen. There are a lot of variables in each case but I think for me it comes down to user variation. I have had those bad shaves, kept the blade and the next shave is great. I know it feels like I always perform in the same manner but I know operator variation must account for some of this.

BAD time for AS :thumbdown

I have had a few of those and the problem is never the products. It is always prep, technique, or that I am trying to rush or be too confident with my shaves. I take my time when I shave or else I regret it later.

I've had bad shaves with lousy shaving cream. Little or none of those qualities we read about in the reviews that good quality shaving creams are supposed to have, such as protection, slickness, glide, cushion, etc.

Had a shave like that last week! Think I have isolated the problem to learning how (or how NOT) to lather soap. Was my third try with soap, and think I had it to thin such that it dried out. Ouch!!! Instead of three passes, I stopped at one and a half!

The good news is that after this one horrible night everything is back on track. In fact last night was one of the best BBSs I've ever had. Think I might have finally figured out how to do my neck without tearing it apart while going for BBS as well.
