What's new

OMG! No more razor burn!

Been about a month since ditching the Fusion cartridge crap for the Merkur Futur. I must say my skin has responded by feeling awesome. I have to shave the head and face every day. Doing this with the Fusion setup for several years would leave me with razor burn and not that close BBS shave that I desire. Finally, I did some reading here and watched some YT vids and decided to take the plunge of faith into tht realm of DE shaving. It took several days for my skin to adjust as well as honing my technique, but shaving everyday with my new DE setup leaves my head and face feeling great! Man, My only regret is that I wish I would have done this 10 years ago. Thanks for this website and all the great info. You all are making a difference in the lives of those that are new to this age old tradition of men!

Well done and enjoy the shaving experience. Did you generate your avatar as a likeness of yourself? If so, I did this also and I was wondering how you did it? Thanks.

Lol, I just Googled "bald black guy with glasses avatar" and picked from the choices!

My reaction to DE shaving was the same as Dtown experienced. I had been using a Mach 3 for seven years, a Trac II for about seven years before that after having used electric razors and disposables the prior two decades. All of them gave me razor burn and not very good shaves. Then I got pointed to DE's and have enjoyed shaving ever since.

Its great to hear the DE is working out so well for you. Shaving your head with it sounds like a bit of a challange as well. Was your head shaving technique hard to adapt to?

Congrats! Glad the DE is working out for you, as it has for so many here. But I have to ask, did you change only your razor/blade? Or, when you switched to DE, did you also change your prep procedure and lather products?

YES! It takes a very sensitive touch or your will shave this dime sized thin sheets from your scalp! OUCH! I learned to respect the DE and apply NO PRESSURE very quickly! :crying:

Also changed prep, procedure and lather products. I was using foam can creams and no pre-shave oil. I did shave in the shower though to soften the whiskers all over...which hasn't changed.

The reason I ask is, I think many attribute the decrease in irritation solely to the DE razor (and blame the cart). I wonder if (at least for some) the change in prep--and decreased pressure-- play a big part in the improvement.

I know I got terrible irritation with carts (and DE early in my life) until I changed my prep and the products I use. My cart shaves went from horrible to irritation free once my prep (and products) got better. I've since moved on to DE shaving, but I can't say it has made much of a difference to my face. Of course, had I done everything at once, I might have attributed the improvement to the razor/blade.

I'm not suggesting that this is your experience, I just sometimes wonder when people point out how much better there face is once they stopped shaving with carts, if they've considered what else they have changed in the switch to DE.

How did YOU do it?

I can't remember the exact site bit I googled "create an avatar" and choose one from the several that came up. The site I choose had multiple steps and options in personalization and I came up with a this cartoon version of myself. Sorry to hijack the thread.

Good Point...a great deal of the benefit could be the pre-prep and use of a quality cream and brush. I won't be going back to cartridge though to find out. :scared:

Congrats dtown, I know exactly how you feel. I get razor burn from fusions and electric's alike. Left it all behind and the wife notes how much better my face is.
