Looking for recommendation for travel razor for carry on luggage airline

ShavePals:

I have been wet shaving for 10 years with DE razors. But I have been traveling a bit lately and have been checking my luggage because of the blades. I recently tried a disposable plastic BIC razor at home to see if I could use it traveling instead of my DE setup so I could use it with carry on baggage. The razor was just awful. Hard on the skin. I am a much better shaver now than I was 10 years ago when I started. I used cartridge razors and canned goo, no prep or plan, and got constant irritation. Flash forward 10 years now and with Proraso, face lather, Henson DE and Astra SP and I am very happy. But I wonder if there is a decent cartridge out there I could use for travel with the above setup without killing myself. Trac II? Thoughts?

You can take a DE razor if you put it in checked luggage. If you are flying only with carry-on luggage, the TSA will confiscate DE razors, even without blades, so you'll need a disposable or cartridge razor in that case. Some have had good success with Bic Metal disposables. My preference in cartridge razors is the Defender razor (defenderrazor.com).

Gillette Sensor would be my choice. I’ve never had to use it while traveling, but I always keep one of those in my carry-on just in case my checked baggage is lost or delayed.

The plastic BIC is terrible. The BIC Metal is a lot better. One of the better carry-on razors. Trac II works well too.

Sir dndrich, IMHO, just about any of the modern cartridge razors will give a great shave!
Whether disposable or otherwise!
Have a great trip!!

I grabbed a Trac II and 100 pack of Personna carts for TSA screens years ago and still working through them. It’s a good choice if you can find carts you’re happy with.

One thing I would say is that if you're interested in a cartridge razor and hate clogging, the Defender razor might be a good fit. (The Defender is my favorite cartridge razor.)

OK, so bought some BIC metals and used today with my Proraso red cream for the first time. Perfectly good shave. Not as good as my Henson, but totally acceptable DFS. No irritation. I used a light touch. I think what has happened over the last 10 years of wet shaving is I know how to shave now. Before when using carts I had no instruction as a youth, so did single pass shaves with canned goo and got so much irritation and trouble. Now I can shave quite well without weepers or irritation. So, I think this will work just fine for travel. Thanks guys! If not I will try some of the other solutions here. But I believe the problem is solved. Yay!
