Old Spice Smell Alike - PS by Paul Sebastian?

So the folks over at Basenotes are lauding PS by Paul Sebastian as being a nice, relatively inexpensive frag with a bit of an Old Spice vibe to it.
It's from the late 70s, and might be discontinued, but seems to still be available.

Anybody here ever try the stuff?

So something that is discontinued smells like something else that is discontinued.

Why wouldn't someone just look for the original Old Spice, as it must be easier to obtain?

Thought PS was still in production. I got a big old honking bottle of it I don't think I'll use up anytime soon. Too many others to compete with as well though as well. I just got a bottle of older Old Spice but I don't know if it is the old stuff. Going to have to keep it in mind to see if I notice similarities between OS and PS.

I despised the smell of PS, but I smelt it quite a long time ago. I gave my mini to another B&Ber who mentioned that it smelled like one of the Pinaud's (either Clubman or Bay Rum).

It may be still in production, but it seems to be out of mainstream distribution at the retail level. I have to look around a bit. CVS may carry it.

The impression I'm getting here is that it has an old school kind of vibe.
Many of the Basenotes reviews specifically reference Old Spice.

I may blind buy it if I can get it for $20-$25. My experience with these kinds of scents is that when you do find them at a perfume cart or drugstore, they don't have a sampler available.

I guess I'm looking for an EdT version of something in the Old Spice neighborhood that will have more longevity. I hear this PS is a very tenacious long lasting scent. Old Spice doesn't last on me for more than an hour or so.

I get finicky about longevity. If I spray something on before work, I at least want it there through lunch time.

I wore PS for many years prior to my B&B experiance. I would not characterize it like OS in any of its permutations.
PS has/is been available at JR cigars and is one of the best sellers.

Today I find it just OK, it has an artificial feel to it(as does many other commercial scents).

Something about the PS scents I liked and I bought just about every one I could lay my hands on. No luck with the PS Silver though. More elusive than my Semogue LE...

I've had no problems with longevity for me with PS colognes. I've noticed the Kinetic isn't as strong in cold weather. Something better suited to summer perhaps. I still have much to learn. :001_smile

I took a whiff of my new Old Spice and the PS together, and at that first whiff it is pretty similar to my nose. Would have to really think about it to try to describe it but I'd have to get all my stuff together and try it on the skin.

Thanks for checking. I notice a lot of scents "open up" similar to each other, but I'll have to see for myself what happens after dry down. That's where the rubber meets the road to me.

Saw PS at CVS tonight and grabbed it. Perfect. Exactly what I was hoping for.

Close enough for me to Old Spice in an EdT with more legs.

(But none of you Shulton fans go buy this on my word. I know some of you know the year and the barrel your OS came from).
