Odd sized thuringian or something else?

I don’t recall seeing one like this before. It is the size that feels weird to me. No label. But boxed like my little Celebrated Water Razor Hone (~4 3/4”). Glued in tight. Shorter and wider than the normal little razor hones.

Did someone else box a stone similarly? Threw in the pics a little lighter colored one I recently got from Slice for color/size comparison too.

I’ve seen French slates with similar dimensions and box like that. I don’t recall if the latch was as exact matches to that one though. If I remember right they were called golden something?

Interesting. With that box and latch and for like 12 British pounds it was worth a shot. Didn’t really notice the size difference until I got it in hand. Thanks for the feedback on what it may be.

It is lapped very course like off 80 grit SiC and was from person into tools not razors. But you may be right. I wish I could get it out of the box. It has seen much oil and has that old oily grey swarf on all sides which is not supposed to be used. When I get a chance to clean it up maybe I can see some saw marks or lack there of. Probably should have done that first but wanted to ask about the size. Box is what had me and like I said, I really didn’t notice the size until in hand. Then it was obvious :)

I have 4 stones that are 4-4.5” x 1.25” - 1.5” ish in the same type of box, all of them are Thuris

Currently away from home some haven’t got any photos to show for now, but they definitely did different sized (not 5 x 1”) in their boxes

The one I was thinking of is “Goldfisch Wetzstein” it’s a boxed la Lorraine.

Freed from the box and quick dip in degreaser to scrub down to actual stone. Zero visible saw marks on sides or ends. Bottom only leveled but not lapped flat. I don’t think it is thuringian or at least not like others I have held. Doesn’t feel right. More slatey. Will put some pics up soon but I’m thinking not thuringian and maybe not meant for razors. Will put a razor on it soon and see what it does.

Ok. Cleaned it up a little and lapped the top with some W/D 400 to knock down the roughness. I think last person flattened with belt sander after looking closely. Now feels much better. Some kind of slatey thing but not sure that it is from Thuringia. Not seeing typical saw marks on sides and ends which seem to have been lapped flat. Maybe on one end. Some oil staining still present I think - did not soak in degreaser so May come out. Will try to put a razor on it soon and see what it does really.
