What's new

Now I get the MWF love.

I've finally acquired a second puck of MWF. I tried it a couple years ago and didn't have much luck with it. I figured it was time to give it another try. My puck complete with ceramic dish arrived yesterday thanks to generosity of my pal Rockviper.(We made a little trade, but it was his idea). I shaved with it this morning. Nice! Now I get it! Really good cushion and nice slickness. This was only my first shave with it so I think it will take a little more practice to really nail the lather. I think I need more water next time. For the last pass I added a little more water to the lather and the slickness just about doubled.

Anyway, I had a great shave and zero sting from the Aqua Velva. I think I'm going to enjoy this soap. Thanks Rockviper!

I had similar initial issues as you. What did it for me was to use MWF exclusively for about three weeks straight and really focus on the variables and techinique. The reward was probably the best performing lather there is and also the revelation that it is actually a pretty easy soap to lather (once you nail down a technique). Enjoy!

Glad to hear you have revisited the MWF. Once you have that lather mastered, there are few others that come close, IMO. Congratulations!

I too had a better experience with my second puck. Though in my case I was entirely to blame, I let the first one dry out badly before I used it in earnest. It never quite recovered.

Yeah, I'm completely locked in on generating good lather with MWF. I've been using a Windsor puck recently, but this morning I went back to MWF, and I got a more voluminous lather than even the Windsor.

You'll love MWF in that cold, northern winter. I have always found it to be quite moisturising.

Glad you gave it another shot and happy that it worked out for you.
Another member (I think EVBO) had the same experience where it worked for him the second time around and he loved it.

The fat is good. Once you get that lather going it's lovely experience shaving with it.

I still can't get it going in a bowl so it was a good excuse to go face first and I've not regretted it.

Glad to hear the MWF is working out for you , Foyle!
As you know, I'm more than happy with what came in the mail to me in return. :ouch1:

Just wanted to say thanks for sharing your experience. Once Shaving.ie comes back up I'm thinking of picking up a the Puck and dish along with a brush. I've heard all of this good stuff about it, along with the fact that it's a tallow soap with lanolin which i like. One of the reasons that i began straight razor shaving is because it's different, and a new challenging experience...I wonder if the soap will be the same sort of thing.

Mitchell's really is a benchmark type soap for me, to judge all other shave soaps. I learned to lather with it when I just started out wet-shaving, I happen to really enjoy the scent too ( the only one it comes in).
