Norton hone went for $720?

I belive those are the vintage Nortons that many Axe Men prefer. I saw some go even higher than $700 in the past

The usual "Axe men stone... blah blah blah... magical carborundum that can't be made any more because of solar radiation and blue kryptonite, etc".

Or else maybe people are gullible.

It is the magical axe man stone. Only a couple passes and it puts on a keen edge. Or so they say....

Highly doubt it is anything better than a good JNat or Shapton 30k can put on an edge.

Could you imagine if you take that Norton and throw it at a tree? It must melt through the bark

The norton barbers hone is known as the best barbers hone ever made and the finest maxing out near 20-30k grit. They are very much saught after and most collectors of hones will pay a ton of money for them.

Have fun

There is nothing that anyone could say that would make me pay that much for that stone.

You could get a set of Naniwa SS or Shapton Pro, an intermediate J-nat, and a high grade finishing J-nat for $500.

Thanks for the information. Now, I know one more thing to look for in the junk shops to sell off right away. :001_smile:001_smile

You folks really meant axes, as in the tools that are used to chop things. I am astounded. As was pointed out, there must be much less expensive alternatives to achieve the same quality edge.

And, I thought the $250 I dropped on a Nakayama Asagi was bordering on certifiable insanity. :001_rolle:001_rolle

A bit confused about the "axe", is this razor hone for sharpening axes as well as razors?
Well, it's a sharpening stone. It makes all things sharp.
These guys obviously needs a sharp axe & they have allegedly a very strong belief that the Norton stone is what they need to win.

The mind is a powerful thing...

I finally checked youtube out for these famous "axe men"
At the begining of this clip, I think you can see a barber's hone in his kit.... notice how freaking sharp and smooth cutting his axe is:

Okay, I clicked on the video and thought I was watching a Monty Python like skit for a good bit of it- but no, they are entirely serious. Amazing. I suppose most of my friends think I am nuts for hanging out here.

I guess if you think it will help you win, it will help you win.

With the stones I have for razors, I have put edges on just about everything in the house that can be sharpened, but I hadn't thought about my hatchet in the Jeep. :001_rolle:001_rolle

Another corollary use! At least SWMBO is enjoying sharp kitchen knives. It has made my hone acquisitions far more palatable to her.
