What's new

No love for Bic?

Although I am new to DE shaving, I have been lurking at B&B for quite some time now and have been trying to soak it all in. I have read many endorsements for quite a few different blades, but haven't read much about Bic. Prior to my conversion to DE shaving, one of my favorite disposables was made by Bic. Just curious if anyone has any first hand experience with Bic DE blades.

I have tried them and found them to be okay, but not as good as the Blue Birds and Astra Platinums I like best. Seems quite a few people like them, and blade preference tends to be a very personal thing.

My favorite Bic is/was the Bic Metal. I've tried the DE blades made in Greece, and, well, shortly after that I discovered Red IPs. The Bics never saw another one of my DEs. Since then, I've moved to Feathers.

I haven't used a Bic DE blade in some time, but the Bic Metal razors (Walgreen's still has them) are fine for travel.

Interesting that you mentioned the Bic metal...my fav too. I wasn't able to find them locally, but bought a twelve pack of five on Ebay or Amazon for about 20 bucks shipped. I keep them for travel or as a back up.

I liked the Bics enough to order 100 of them. They're a pretty good blade.

However, I've recently gotten into Feathers, Iridiums and 7 O'Clock Yellows. I find hem to give a closer shave, but I am going to keep the Bics around as a backup. They are good blades.

I like Bics too. Just haven't gotten around to ordering any yet. They are good all around blades. Get a sampler pack from Westcoast Shaving that has some in it and go from there.

The very first razor I ever used was a Bic white handled disposable. I never needed to shave until I got to basic training. You had a list of stuff you had to buy at the PX. Razors were on there. I grabbed the white bics only because I seen them in the bathroom for years as a child growing up, heck I'd never shaved, what did I know? The drill sergeant a few days later got all in my face wanting to know why I hadn't shaved. After a dose of pushups I decided I'd better put steel to hair (albeit peach fuzz). Those little suckers nearly tore my face off. Gosh. Talk about agressive. You could shave bark off an oak tree with a white handled Bic. Don't see em in stores much anymore, though the yellow handled ones (for sensitive skin) are everywhere.

The first shave with the Bic DE blade was very smooth and comfortable for me. The second shave left a little irritation. Third shave was downright painful.

The increased irritation definitely seemed to be from a rapidly deteriorating blade edge as opposed to the sharpness of and Iridium or Feather.

Thanks for all of the replies. I think I will give them a whirl. Ultimately, I would like to try as many blades as possible until I can find what works best for me.
