newbie takes the plunge - what's next?

tried to buy something through the mall here but didn't find the right deal. found this Gilette Tech on ebay:

bought it.

so I now have a razor, and I already have a badger brush and soap. think it might be really helpful to have some razor blades and a little instruction on how to make all this work.

sounds like the instruction can be had over at Youtube but would welcome other "first shave" tips.

also, what about the blades? what should I start with? best place to get a sampler of blades so I can try different ones?

For blades, it's always a good idea to go to West Coast Shaving and buy the biggest sampler pack you can afford. The owner's a member here...

There are also a number of other vendors who are members here who do sample packs.

My advice is to just spend time looking around the forums here. There is tons of advice on just the questions you have asked. Get to know the site and read some interesting stuff. After just a couple of hours you will have picked up so much information you will be an "Expert Nouveau"!
