Newbie question: How do you dispose of spent blades?

Nevermind - I've found several threads since posting this. Apparently the "similar threads" function is better than my searching ability. Maybe someone could tell me how to delete a post?

I've been at this a little more than a week now and in that time I've gone through a few blades, perhaps more out of curiosity than necessity, but none the less, I've tossed two or three blades in the trash since I started this. Is there a better way? These things are sharp as heck, so having them floating around loosely in the garbage seems like a bad idea. How do you dispose of your spent blades?

Thanks for your insight.

I put them back in their original wrapping, and throw them away.

But i need to make a blade bank out of an old can.

I got a old coffee can cut a slot on top. When full I will tape on lid and trash. I have hid it out of sight between the bedroom dresser and wall.

The containers for double edge razors have a slot in back for the used blades.

Unfortunately not all of them do. Not even all of the plastic ones do. I was using a Mayo jar with a slit in the lid, and now I am using a vintage glass medicine bottle. You can get creative, or just use whatever you have.

Out of curiosity, how DOES one recycle these (since some have suggested doing so)? I have a feeling if I call my recycling center without having some info to hand, they're just going to say "You wanna recycle WHAT?"

Is it really as easy as taking one's soup-can blade bank and tossing it in the recycling bin? It would seem I've seen that suggested on other threads, but haven't been sure if it would be "safe" or not.

That's why I said "toss it in the trash". It's metal, the blades are metal and the land fill is a perfect place for them. Nobody needs to touch them.

We did a studs out renovation of all our bathrooms and kitchen about 15 years ago. All the cabinets have the razor slot and they were new then.

Here is my blade bank I made out of an energy drink aluminum bottle. I don't think I will out live it... Used a random orbit sander and a chisel to make the slot. Took 5 minutes.

Put them all in a tin of your choice from any of the ideas above, savagejoerude's looks quite interesting. Once its half full, make a trip down to a nearby hospital and ask them where their 'sharps' disposal area is and discard it there. That's the safest method as they deal with hundreds of disposable sharps everyday.

I just use an old pickle jar that a cut a slot in the top with a dremel. Works perfect and will probably fill up in 10 years. I tried to use the slot in the plastic blade cases, but one blade slid out and ripped my garbage back to pieces.

Toss them. The amount is miniscule and it's not worth the risk of injury to the recycling people who have to handle it. Most people would be shocked at the amount of "recyclables" that get diverted from a recycling center to a landfill for various reasons, so a few razor blades won't matter anyway. I use the $1 blade bank as it takes up less space than cans and can fit in a small drawer. When full, I toss in the trash.
