New travel kit

I recently picked this up and just though I would share it with you guys.











It was a gift from my dad (very generous!) and I don't have my hands on it yet, but I thought I would share my excitement with you guys. I travel a decent bit for work and pleasure so this will be good to have. I'm not sure what make it is (looks like it has Personna blades). I will have to ask my dad what make the razor is, maybe update with some more pictures. If you recognize it, let me know! Only 'downside' is it didn't have a brush... but I would probably just get a new one anyway (I feel funny about using 'used' brushes, soaps and creams, though I know a lot of B&B guys do use them).

Very nice kit there. I feel the same way about brushes. If I have a handle I like the knot is always replaced...that's just me. The brush should fit in one of the tubes.

that is a very nice kit, i personally like those old leather kits with the tubes. i have a couple myself but not quite as nice or as large. BOL tom

So, I guess I lied. It does have a shaving brush, but not a hairbrush. Here are some pictures of the brush. I will either replace it entirely or just replace the knot. With older kits, its tempting to use the original handle with a knew knot. Here are some pictures.







The first one is a comparison, the rest shows just the brush. If its not too expensive, I will replace the knot.

Here are some up closes of the razor. I'm not sure what its... I believe it has a US head with a British handle.

I had a shave with this razor today for the first time. I was pleasantly surprise with how nice it was and how good my shave was! I'm not sure razor it is. Its definitely a Gillette. Anybody know?

Kind of looks to be the 1947 Super Speed with the non notched bar and the slightly straight non-machined surface before the machining starts. The set is awesome, really like the matching toothbrush holder and the butterscotch brush. I would be keen on having that re-knotted and letting that color get better.

That's a 40's style SuperSpeed. You should see the Gillette logo under the head, and where it was made (should be US). It looks like it does not have the knotched center bar, so would be prior to 1948. There may be ways to figure out if it's pre or post WWII, but I don't recall at the moment how.

On the case, my gut tells me that's from a different razor. I think the 40's SuperSpeed's only came in a leather case, or the more common red/clear plastic case. I'm no expert on these though, so maybe others can chime on that part of it.

Yeah, the case seems to be made in England. Overall I'm extremely happy with this case. I will need to find a tooth brush/tooth paste that fits, but that should be pretty easy.

Also, just noticed in your sig that there is an Armature Radio social group? I'll have to check that out!
