New to Wetshaving, already have two razors

I have decided to try wetshaving and have made several purchases and am anxious to get them so I can get started. I spent several days researching everything before making any purchases. I just bought these two razors from the bay and wanted to know what you all think and if you can ID the second one. I know the first one is a Fatboy. From what I have learned I am going to say either a Goodwill or New, open comb of course. Also let me know any tips and what to expect with these specific razors. Remember, one of these will be my very first wetshave. Thanks!

The second one is an Old Type. It is hard to tell from that angle, but it appears that it may be a type #102 head which would place it before August 1921. Does it have a serial number on the guard plate where the blade sits?

Hi Greg,

Welcome.

The 2nd razor is an Old Type. It's hard to tell what kit it's from as this style is common to military kits, ABC pockets etc. The New does not have the blade positioning posts.

I would start with the Fat Boy set to about a 2 and go from there. Just remember to loosen the head when you make an adjustment.

I haven't gotten these in yet. I just won the second one this morning for $8.50. For some reason I thought that was a good price even without knowing anything about it other than it is a Gillette. I'll post any more info I can find on them once I get them in the mail.

Thanks again.

I just realized that the seller did have this information on the auction. Does that mean 1904? Wow, if that's the case then I suspect I got a good deal on this!

ON RAZOR HEAD IS THE GILLETTE INSIGINIA AND MADE IN USA.

ON HANDLE IS PAT NOV 15 04.

Almost all Old Types have the Nov. 15, 1904 patent date on them. Even those made into the late 1920's. This pocket edition style didn't appear until the early 1910's.
