What's new

New to the forum. Got a few questions.

I've been shaving with an old Gillet DE razor for about a year now. My tools have been Wilkerson Sword and Persona blades, cheap Walmart brush, cheap VanderHagen soap, and CO Bigelow cream.

I recently ordered a few soaps and a Vulfix #5 Boar brush from Kell's Original, but I'm not getting as good of a lather with this combo. The Vulfix has way less bristols that the Walmart brush, so I'm not blaming the soap. I'll try my old brush with the Kell's next.

Anyway, anyone have experiance with the lower priced Vulfix brushes? Kell's soap?

I have not used the Kell's soap or the Vulfix but I will say that with my boar bristle brushes they take using several times before they "break in". You might consider putting some water on top of the soap while you do your usual morning routine. Then either pour the water off or depending on how much you put on it, just start working the brush in.

I usually let the soap and brush soak in hot water while I'm drying off after bathing. I then load the brush and switch to a palm bowl and make my lather that way. Works real well when you get it right, or at least it did with my old soap and brush. Also, I see that I should of posted in the NEWB forum.

Welcome aboard. If you have questions, someone here will have the answer. Very knowedgable group of people on this forum. Not familiar with your soap, but if its a hard soap you really need hot water, and alot of wrist action. I face lather with a boar brush (Semoque 1305 - excellent) and when I use hard soap I find I have to reload the tip of brush for each pass but its not a problem.

Welcome to the forums. I've never used that soap, but I've had several Vulfix brushes, and all have been really nice. I've always had their best grade of badger, and my 2234 is my most often used brush.
