What's new

New to se shaving.

Hey guys, long time no talk.

Much has happened since my last post. We had a baby in august so my posting stopped but long story short, i came into two vintage se razors. One is an open comb and one is a closed. There arent many videos on se shaving intros out there, mrguysrazors was my goto guy. Other than amazon, is there any place (walmart, pharmacy) that sells se razors. Is there such a thing as a se sampler pack? What are some good brands of blades?

Thanks for all the help.

First shave!

I kinda lucked into a blade. In one of the set ups was a vintage gem blade still in the package. I checked both razors, the previous owner used the open comb one usually so i took that one for a spin.

Let me tell you, i can see why people use open comb razors and se razors. It was a complete success. I had a good four day growth going on and after two passes, it was gone. Completely smooth. Almost bbs. It didnt take me long to get the angle down. The shave was so effortless, it was almost too easy.

I have heard that the shave is as close to getting a straight razor shave without using a straight. I gave up on using a straight last year. Too much time, too much burn. My face couldnt handle it. This razor gave me all the benifits of one without all the trouble.

I seriously cant wait for tomorrow to shave again.

CVS, Walgreens, and Rite-aid all carry GEM or TREET se blades in dispenser packs. All SE blades are made by ASR (American Safety Razor who also makes the Personna line of products).

What ever you do, don't get box cutter blades. They are only two facet grinds and made for durability when cutting things like cardboard and wood, not triple facet like the shaving blades are. Trust me, you WILL know the difference once you stick a box cutter blade in your razor.

The only thing different about SE shaving is the blade angle. With your 4 day growth you may not have noticed if you were off but if you start shaving every day you will need to maintain a very shallow blade angle with a SE razor. The cap of the razor needs to almost touch your face. Blade angle is 10 degrees or less not the normal 30 degrees that a DE razor works at.

If you use an angle greater than 10 degrees you will be scraping your face not cutting your beard.

WCS sells the GEM (Personna) stainless steel PTFE coated blades in a 10 blade dispenser if you want to try a modern blade in your razor without buying a 100 count bulk pack

Guys must be listening to you, Turtle. I went to the CVS site to order some SE blades and they were out of stock. Like their warehouse was empty. That's interesting...must be more guys are waking up to the superiority of the SE shave.

Turtle,

Hee... hee... hee.... I stuck that in there just to see if anyone pays attention :whistling:

It isn't a SE razor. It is a Kriss-Kross which uses a specialty blade not a standard SE blade.

Good eyes. :biggrin1:
