I don't use OC razors nearly as much as I used to. I did happen to acquire a hybrid Tech which combines the baseplate design of a new with a solid bar of the tech. That is easily one of my top 10 razors in the den.

Nice Razor color.Which razor is it? thank youI use mine regularly.
I somewhat prefer the Short Comb variant at this time. Excellent, very efficient yet unaggressive shaver. Will see off the most pesky growth for a good 36 hours.

It is the original gold wash.Very nice

Why not indeed?
But that doesn't detract from my interest in answering the original question. The design is so successful you would think that there would be a modern equivalent, but nothing yet quite seems to nail it.
My top favorite OC razor is my 1939 Gillette NEW RFB. Here it is on its 15 gram GT handle {made by my (late) good friend Doug (@Rosseforp)}:

Thank you.Very nice looking.
Yes. Another excellent Back Roads Gold job (in their standard "mirror nickel").Is that nickel plated?
They are obviously different, but I have found that the Aylesworth Drakkant (Ti) comes closest to the shaves I get with the New LC & SC. The Drakkant also has the slim head and blade clamp that I like. That raises I question that I have also wondered about - what modern CNC razor is closest in feel and performance to the NEW?
It is a question I have tried to answer a little over the past few months by purchasing a couple of mild OC razors, and whilst I have found good razors, none of them are comparable to the NEW.
The shape of the teeth
The low gap / exposure
The low blade reveal / high rigidity
The compact, nimble head
Nothing yet has quite hit the spot on all criteria, but there must be a razor out there which does.
The NEW seems about as popular as any other vintage Gillette in terms of us having them in our dens. My LC is a great shaver. I haven't yet warmed to my SC.
I think there's less talk about the US-made NEWs because they have less value for collectors. They were working men's razors that didn't come in fancy sets and are widely available on the secondhand market.
The British NEWs get more talk here because of all the variations and different sets.
Two of my four razors are based on the NEW — British RFB and Goodwill #160.
Both give sublime shaves.
This is a great razor and I use this one or the old type. True, $30 is a lot; I bought mine for about $8 in the 2010s.I don't see much talk about the Gillette NEW razor these days. It came in a long comb version and a short comb version. It's a fantastic razor that you can usually get on eBay for about $30.00. I got one I had nickel plated and it looks great. It gives a great shave.
Anyone still uses a Gillette NEW regularly?
