What's new

Anyone still using the Gillette NEW razor

I don't see much talk about the Gillette NEW razor these days. It came in a long comb version and a short comb version. It's a fantastic razor that you can usually get on eBay for about $30.00. I got one I had nickel plated and it looks great. It gives a great shave.
Anyone still uses a Gillette NEW regularly?

I shaved a fortune
I've only recently tipped my toe into Vintage razors....but I did include a Canada NEW Regent (LC) and a NEW Short Comb in the Red and Black case. I've only used each one once and had lovely shaves with them both. I'll bring them out again in Vintage April...

I own many vintage Gillette razors. Gillette New Long Comb was the finest double edge razor Gillette ever made, IMO. I have two from the 1930’s, an original gold tone ball end and a rhodium replate. I used LC every few days for several years. Now that I shave daily I use Gillette Red Tip unless I go much longer between shaves.

I use mine all the time.

Does it have any numbers on the under-side?

All SC razors should have patent numbers on the baseplate (post merger Gaisman hybrid design, a bit like the Rotbart RFB. Wonder if they came from the Probak factory?)
4 patent numbers would suggest a 1932 manufacture date, with 1 being deleted not long after.

My understanding is that Gillette stopped putting serial numbers on razors in 1930 and didn't start date codes until 1950.
The first batch of LC New have no patent numbers on the baseplate, they're on the handle.

After the 1930 Autostrop/Probak merger both Gillette and Probak patents we added to the baseplate around 32.

Absolutely love my NLC & NSC. I have two Techs that I've essentially retired at this point in favor of the News. Either one paired with a Wilkinson Sword (German) or very recently and #1 on the list is the Viking's Sword blade. Best shaves I've ever had. I don't have R.A.S. and the only thing I'd purchase at this point would be another of each.
