New Straight Razor ... needs a sharping?

I - I just got my first (slightly used) Dovo Special straight razor. I stropped it about 20-30 round trips before I let it touch my face. It felt like it was catching the hair rather then cutting it, and in the end it was an unimpressive, unenjoyable shave. If anything I'd say the hair was longer then before I started.

Like I said, I bought it used, the seller told me he bought it used and didn't like it after 4 shaves; I'm not sure who he bought it from, but assuming on-line (like Amazon) would it come pre-sharpened or is that likely a reason why neither of us are happy with it?

Thanks :)

Any new razor needs touch ups by a honer before it's used. Unless it's specifically mentionned that the razor is 'shave ready', have someone hone it.

In the case that 'it seems sharp', I would have a honer sharpen it.

You could always try to shave some hairs off your arm or leg to see if it cuts the hairs with ease or not.

Also, 20-30 laps on the strop isn't much. 60 would be much better!

You live in LA, I live in Northern California so postage will be pretty fast. If you will send it to me I will hone it for you, for the postage. I will send it back 5 days after I get it. I have been doing different razors for a couple of years and would like to put my new 30K Shapton to the test. PM me if you wish to take me up on my offer, otherwise not worries.

Take Care,
Richard
