New Long comb on an Ikon handle - Wowsers!

I bought an New long comb for around £1.50, the handle was awful and hollow, and short, but the head was fine. I had wanted a open comb and got a cheap old type knock off but it was quite irritating and a harsh shave, so tried the NEW.

This was an amazing first shave, the shave angle is **** easy to find and it becomes like you have been shaving with it all along.

The only problem is the Ikon handle doesn't totally fit as there is a bit too wide to fit into the hole, and as such tilts a bit.

Anyone else have this problem, can I just put a nut on the end of the head and the Ikon handle will just tighten in nice and square?

Either way, I'm well happy with the long comb, what a design!

A Long Comb with that handle is a great shave combo. A nut would work as would some small washers. I use a British Long Comb with my older ikon stainless handles almost every day. The Brit LC heads are flat bottomed so they can screw down all the way.

My go to combo is the one on the left shown below.

I've seen US Long Comb heads made for thin bar handle end with small cutouts, and some made for the wider standard bar handle with larger cutouts. The difference can be seen in the image below. The nickel US Long Comb head shown in the image came with a thin bar handle thus the cut out is a bit smaller than the handle cutout shown on the short comb to the left. A standard bar handle Long Comb head has the same sized cutout as the short comb shown in the image.

Also, below is another image of just some of the handles I have seen with US made New/New Deluxe three piece razors.

From left:

Ball End, Thin Bar Handle (Long), Shoulderless Bar Handle (Long), Thin Bar Handle, Bar Handle, Thin Tech, and Tuckaway style.

Some that are not shown are the short Norfolk bar handle, Red Black Bar, and the various British handles.

Amazing posts for refernece xillion, thank you very much.

It is the one of the far right, Made in England.

Here's a pic of it in a gold ball tech handle, the one to the left is what came with it, a rubbish handle but it has a feint patent on it so I presume is Gillette made, right is the Ikon handle.

The first razor I've felt immediately. 'Wow, that's made for me!'

The one on the far right in the second image is stamped made in Canada. So far, it's the only Canadian made Long Comb I've owned. I owned a Canadian made New Deluxe Big Boy a few years ago.

The handle yours came with looks like a ball end handle that has lost its ball end. The solid ball end you have on the head in your image is a nice pretty nice handle.
Is the tip of your solid ball end handle wider than the tip of the ikon?

The ball end Tech Handle is gold and is in very good nick, seems it was barely used, and I don't use it as the tech is just too mild for my liking. It is the same size as the Long handle at the tip, so might use it for that, the Ikon is wider than both by a good bit, will add a washer or spacer like you suggested.

Actually the Pat. No on the New handle is 133963. I think you are correct, that makes it an English New ball end, 1917?

The New didn't come along until the 1930's. Yours may be a from a Regent, Windsor, or Oxford set. The handle in the Oxford image below looks like it may have the same Pat No. but I can't really make it out.

Yep good eye. that's definitely the handle. I think the Patent number was registered in 1917 (according to the patent records) and re-used. Worth £1.50 of anybody's money, easily my favourite DE razor head yet!
