new guy, cleaning/restoring

i just got into old de razors. i read that i can clean/restore them with bleach. i picked up a '54 ss, '60 fatboy, and a red flare tip. while they soak theres black stuff forming on the razors. is this normal? or is this the bleach eating the coating? i think it shouldnt eat the coating but im new. any insight will help.

I had never heard of using bleach before..... I have no idea if that would hurt them but its a strong possibility as that stuff is very costic.

The restore WIKI has some great info and known safe practices for cleaning up old gear.

When you get into the shaft of old razors some gunk will come out as old shaving cream etc. does get trapped in there. Depending on use and care by the original owner this amount will vary considerably.
