New cigar smoker looking for recommendations

Last night I posted in the COTD thread about my first real cigar experience. For those who didn't read that post, it was a Casa Magna Colorado and I loved it. I don't know anything about cigars so I'd appreciate some recommendations that might be in line with the flavours I enjoyed in the CMC--I detected some chocolate/cocoa, raisins, tiny whispers of coffee and some earthiness. If this helps or means anything, I believe the wrapper, filler and binder are all Nicaraguan. Seemed to have a dark, oily wrapper. The guage is 52, which I don't think I'd like to go too much bigger than, and it is 5.5" long, which seemed like a good length for a smoke, taking me a little more than half an hour to finish. Price is also an issue. The Casa was a bit under $10 (I'm in Canada) and I'd prefer to spend less on a cigar that gives me only 30 minutes of pleasure. However, if something is really special and connects with me, I'd have no problems digging deeper in my pocket.

I'm also interested in learning about any online cigar shops that will ship to Canada. Thanks so much, guys.

Given the flavor profile you described, I'd say grab a Liga Undercrown and give it a shot. Sounds like a similar profile and the Ligas have a great reputation for being a well-built, tasty cigar.

I had my first one over the weekend and I LOVED IT.

I would give padron X000 natural or maduro a try if you like the casa magna. The maduro has a bit more pepperyness punch to it than the natural, and around the same price tag as the casa magna.

The undercrown is a super tasty stick too!

I am not at all an expert....actually about as far from it as possible. But, I have smoked that same cigar before and I have smoked the olivia serie G that was already mentioned and i enjoyed both of them quite a bit. just my 2 cents.

Holy crap! How long did that take to smoke? It is my understanding through comments on various forums that, unlike with a pipe, letting a cigar go out and returning to it later is not such a great thing for the flavour. That Undercrown looks and sounds amazing but one of the things that has been drawing me to cigars is the shorter amount of time is generally takes to get through one in a single sitting. I know, I know, just pack a smaller bowl if I want a shorter pipe. Anyway, are those Liga Undercrowns available in shorter sticks?

I'm guessing that one might be the double corona which is 7 x 54, which would probably take 1.5 hours to smoke. I think the smallest undercrown would be the robusto that comes in at 5 x 54 which would take about an hour. But then again it depends on how fast of a smoker you are.

If your looking for short smokes, here was a thread about some short smokes a while back http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/342376-Your-favorite-short-smoke-cigar feel free to bump that thread if you have any questions. We love bringing back older threads :thumbup1:

It is indeed a Corona Doble. In regards to the short smokes thread, there are great suggestions in there. Top of mind is the A.Fuente Hemingway Short Story. It's a fantastic short cigar.

My "GO TO" is the Sancho Panza Dbl Maduro. Inexpensive, very good quality and absolutely divine!

I have yet to find someone who didn't enjoy the SP DM stick when I gave them one--it didn't matter what they typically smoke. Unfortunately my local guy doesn't carry them and the ABC liquor stores in town discontinued them. I guess it's mail order for me, if I want to restock. The price certainly is right,
