New Boot Recommendations?

Haven't spent much time in the Hab, but I'm in the market for a new pair of boots, and figured some of you regulars might prove to be a valuable resource. Mainly for casual wear, but they have to be sturdy enough for motorcycle wear. I really like the look & style of the Red Wing Iron Ranger, but I'd prefer something with a little more grip on the sole, like the Beckmans. I prefer the look of the IR, though, so I guess what I'm really looking for is a combination of the two. Any suggestions?

I wear Iron Rangers. For a vibram sole, check out the similar boot by Chippewa.

I looked at the Chippewas (well, the LLBean boots made by Chippewa). They look like a decent fall-back option if I can't find exactly what I'm looking for.

In your experience, how is the sole on the IR? I live in San Diego, so it's not like I'm worried about snow or anything, but as I mentioned I ride a motorcycle, and "reverse" is me pushing 700 pounds backward, so I need something with some traction.

can't you just have them resoled with Vibram? If not, I HIGHLY recommend White's boots. You can have them made in any configuration, and have Vibram put on the bottom.

The soles on my IR's haven't caused me any problems at all -I deal with rain, etc here in North Texas. I actually think they grip better than I would expect them to. If we get ice or snow, I wear my LLBean Maine Hunting Boots. I would think if you're pushing your bike backward, you're doing it on concrete or asphalt in what I would think are mostly dry conditions.

Cheers!

What about some Corcoran Jump Boots?

Yep. You can probably snag them in the PX....Get the Field boots with the Vibram sole. The standard jump boot has a slick sole.

What color? Black? Brown?

My suggestion would be Danner Workman in Brown (I'm wearing them right now ...... comfortable) or for black and for work and riding I would suggest the Danner Quarry. I wear the Quarry all day at work.

Best regards,

Frank

Well, I have military boots - Belleville jump boots - that are my primary riding boots. I'm looking for a brown work boot that is stylish enough to wear with a pair of khakis or jeans, but tough enough that I can wear them on the bike too.

In my recent search I've heard wonderful things about thorogood boots on the lower end of the cost range
I've heard even better things about the Alden Indy boots but they are quite pricey

Do you have any special "fit" requirements?

So...I stopped in to the Red Wing store (right next to the cigar lounge!) on my way home from work - just to get an idea of sizing. They had me at "military discount":

I think the soles will be fine, but if not they said they can easily resole them with the vibram. Now to begin the chore of breaking 'em in.

very nice! I've been eyeballing some new boots too, but I think I might get a pair of blundstone, need to find a place to try some on though. So did u stop by the cigar lounge while u were out?
