What's new

New Acquisition!

So, the lady and I went to a antiques store to get her mother a flower for Valentine's Day. (They sell flowers, too.) Long story short, I ended up coming home with this little beauty. 1917 Aristocrat, I believe. Confirmation, anybody?

The box hinge is broken, and the razor carriers are kinda dinged up. The razor itself it beautiful, though. I'm super happy with it!

I assume you've seen this? That's about all the confirmation you'd need. Your's looks nicer, however.
Man, some guys have all the luck!

I'd not seen that, thanks for the link. I did find it on the wiki as well, so I'm feeling pretty good about it at this point. I have *no* idea what I should have paid for it, but the $50 feels like a decent investment for a 93 year old razor that's really in amazing (to me) condition.

It's the beautiful Old Type Aristocrat. It's a major find and worth some major coin. Mine cost me a fortune. This one is beautiful. Congrats on a great score.

Thanks, gents. I'm actually wondering about the value on it since they seem impossible to find information on. Even pics are apparently not the easiest things in the world to find. I'm anxious to get it cleaned up a bit more and ready to test. I was surprised to find a vintage razor tucked away in one of the razor cases that I wasn't aware of. Kind of fun to see the changes. I'll throw a pic up, for those interested.

EDIT: I'll have to get out the DSLR later and get some more deserving pics of the setup. Get the case cleaned up a bit, too.

The earliest Aristocrat razor with the distinctive flare tip (not to be confused with later Super Speed flare tips). That is a beauty and rather rare. Also in the beautiful faux ivory case. Nice score sir!!

Thanks, all! I put it through a nice, warm cleansing bath tonight. I'm still amazed at the condition. No pitting that I can discern, and the finish is quite nice. Has the micro scratches to the finish that I can only assume came with multiple cleanings over its life. Really quite nice, though. Comb teeth all are in fine shape, flare is great, no plate loss anywhere. Still can't believe it's 93 years old.

I'll throw on a couple "glamour shots" in B&W. The color variants are a bit warm and make it look almost gold colored, which it definitely isn't. ;)

Amazing. I think this is one of the most beautiful razors Gillette ever made. Far more attractive than the famous double ring everyone wants to own. The lines on that bad boy are just ridiculous (in a good way).

Color me sooo jealous! That's a beauty, and a real steal at 50 bucks. I'd guess it's value with the case and boxes in that condition at well over $200. As rare as they are, it could even go much higher. They don't come along often, you get two collectors with the means bidding back and forth, it could go MUCH higher. Then again, value is such a subjective and fickle thing... but at 50 bucks? That's a HUGE score! :thumbup1:
