Neewbie Question: Cologne

I'm a total Neewbie to both wet shaving and Colognes.

Im progressing nicely with the shaving part.

So here is my question. I like the Aqua Di Parma Cologne, so I decided to spring for a bottle. The salesman said NEVER apply a cologne to your face. Only apply it to your wrists and torso. And that you must NOT rub it in, let the skin naturally absorb it.

Is this true?

My instinct was to apply it (after the Witch Hazel and After Shave Balm have dried or settles in) to my neck, the back of my neck and gently massage it in just to give it an even spread. The salesman said this was absolutely the wrong thing to do.

So I'm asking the experts here, what to do?

Thanks,

dave

Spraying or splashing it on the neck is okay. But cologne isn't intended for your face. Pulse points are the best places (neck, inside of your wrist, chest). Rubbing it in might make it not last as long.

i would agree no face… i hit juist below the ear on my neck, maybe my upper chest/lower neck, the wrists..

i don't see how rubbing is an issue, is it the heat generated? i can't think of anything else… but if you were gentle about it…

I think the closer you apply cologne to your nose, the quicker you will become scent "blind" and will not be able to smell it, and since your nose is right in the middle of your face........

Also, cologne has more alcohol in it than aftershave, so it's likely to sting a lot more than is comfortable, plus it doesn't have any of the ingredients that aftershave has for soothing your skin after shaving.

I'm not sure about rubbing it in versus spraying, but it seems to me like spraying does a better job of "broadcasting" it over a larger surface area, which allows more of to evaporate and be more noticeable.
