When's the best time to apply an EDP that matches aftershave?

So I'm curious when to apply an EDP after shaving. Typically I like matching it with my aftershave, either with similar or identical scents, e.g. PAA harvest moon with matching EDP, or grey doppelgänger with CDNIM.

What I've been doing is spraying EDP right after applying aftershave. My thinking is that since the scents are either identical or matching it doesn't matter if they merge. I spray on my wrists, chest and neck.

Now the slight issue I'm having is applying it on the neck after shaving. It burns. A lot.

Should I wait a while? The aftershave only lasts a couple hours anyway before it fades.

Or is there a better time to apply it?

When's the best time to apply an EDP that matches aftershave?

7:32 am, CST

I don't even think of putting on anything if I have applied afterhave. I shave in the morning and apply aftershave and go about my business.
If I feel a need in the afternoon or before going out in the evening, I'll apply it then.
My personal opinion on matching aftershave and EDT, EDP or cologne is not so I don't clash with my aftershave, but because I like the scent itself and want something that lasts longer before I go out.

Depends what I am doing. If I am going out right after I shower/shave, I apply EDT/EDP right away.

Most aftershave doesn’t last on me for more than a few minutes in any case.

Maybe find an unscented aftershave. Then, it won't really matter when you apply the EdT. Otherwise, I would wait until the aftershave scent has faded away before applying an EdT.
Yeah that's what I'm thinking. I do enjoy a nice aftershave but I've recently discovered these Amouage fragrances and they are top notch.
So I'm thinking instead of spending £50 on a soap and AS set that will last a month I might as well go all out and get an Amouage

Something I've done in the past was to make my own aftershave and this way any type of cologne can be used for fragrance in your own DIY recipe. Of course, the aftershave and EdT will match because they use the exact same fragrance. Only problem with this is you may get more sting from the aftershave.

I might quibble with @luvmysuper. I think it’s 7:34 CST, but let’s not argue over minutiae.

Seriously, though, strong scents can trigger migraines for my boss, and like Phil, I do a/sfor work and don’t care how long it lasts. I’ll use a cologne if I’m out with SWMBO, that’s it.

Personally, I wouldn’t try to match aftershave and additional fragrance.

Most of my shaving is later in the day (I love being retired) and I use scented aftershave. If I have an event to attend or other errands to run that require an earlier shave, I will apply an unscented aftershave (Fine Snake Bite usually, PAA Sin occasionally), then follow with my fragrance (EDP, Parfum, Extrait…. EDTs do not last on me, with very few exceptions).

Before I retired, I did not use an aftershave other than witch hazel before work, just the fragrance of the day.

You do realize that the vast majority of the juice in a frag is perfumer's alcohol. Perfumer's alcohol is ~200 proof, a true fire water alcohol. What you might want to try is applying an unscented or low scented lotion or balm first.

I have first hand experience with the burning effects from perfumer's alcohol. I had a bottle of aftershave that was from a batch that was accidentally created with perfumer's alcohol instead the intended pure grain alcohol. The burning sensation was very intense.
